Best bikini or swimsuit for 'mum tum'

RollonSeptember2018 · 22/07/2018 16:08

I'm a size 10, but still have a mum tum. I don't have abs, I have fat.

I don't want to lose weight as my boobs dissapear, so I am stuck with what I have.

For any of you not liking your tum what do you wear on holiday? A swimming costume or bikini? Which one do you recommend?

I wear a Boden wrap front one piece, holds everything in brilliantly 😂

fedup2017 · 22/07/2018 16:18

When in the med I just go for it and wear a normal bikini. Biarrely a fairly skimpy triangle topped tie side pant bikini makes me look slimmer than a high waisted one or swimsuit. (I'm a size 10 too). After 5mins I usually forget about my stretch marked slighty round tummy and just start enjoying myself. I always take a normal black swimsuit but once you see all shapes and sizes on the beach actually you realise that you should embrace your body and enjoy yourself

Panache roll over / gold over bikini bottoms are excellent.

totallyliterally · 22/07/2018 16:20

Not gold. Fold!

Hoovermanoevre · 22/07/2018 16:21

Tesco body shaping bikini pants are brilliant

Hoovermanoevre · 22/07/2018 16:21

They are also foldy over.
If I forget to pack them my holiday is ruined. I have loads!

Hoovermanoevre · 22/07/2018 16:25

I can't find them now on tesco though. Surely to God tesco hasn't discontinued these holy grail pants, the saviour of all holidays? Shock

NicoAndTheNiners · 22/07/2018 16:26

Tesco are no longer selling clothes online so only limited stock for viewing only on their website.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/07/2018 16:38

I'm heading to Tesco this week to get a bikini (I was hoping they'd reduce them but they hadn't done last week )

I've looked in Sainsbury, too gaudy patterned though they had loads in the sale .

NearWildHeaven · 22/07/2018 16:43

I gave the Boden wrap front too. I love it

I am just wearing a normal bikini

I am a mum, I have a tum, so what Grin

A normal bikini looks fine on most women IMO

RollonSeptember2018 · 22/07/2018 17:13

I wish I had your confidence peanut.

I know no one really gives a crap how I look, I know my husband loves my body, but when I’m in a bikini I just feel like everyone is thinking “oh love put it away you are gross”. Or I feel like my husband is thinking “wow you really are not attractive in that”.

It’s ridiculous I know. They are just so revealing, it is literally like walking around in your underwear. How you mums do it, i don’t know, hats off to you.

One of my fears is standing in line at the water slide, you know on the steps where you are just waiting for your family turn on the rubber ring type situation. Those few minutes of waiting, where I feel like I’m in my underwear with my cellulite, barely there boobs, I’m literally dying inside.

I feel like that too Rollon. But then I think to myself that I have NEVER looked at anyone else in a bikini and thought "ew."
So most people are probably the same and too concerned with themselves!

Pinkvici22 · 22/07/2018 18:02

I feel exactly the same Rollon - I’ve lost nearly a stone in readiness for my holiday and still feel awful in a bikini (even though I’m well within healthy BMI and a size 10-12!)

I’ve ordered (and sent back) over 25 bikinis!!!! I’ve settled on one from Next, one Pour Moi and amazingly one from River Island!

I’m just hoping by the time I’m at the pool I’ll have realised that nobody is actually assessing me and I’ll be fine fingers crossed

Peanutbuttercups21 · 23/07/2018 11:10

For me I got a lot of body confidence from doing sport

Not that it makes me amazingly toned (sadly not) but it makes me like my body for what it can DO rather than how it looks.

I also look at myself in the mirror with a "forgiving eye"

Also, have a look at the general public, most are not models, just, you know, ordinary people Grin

RollonSeptember2018 · 23/07/2018 17:09

This is true, my husband begged me once to take a bikini 'just in case I was feeling braver' when I got there on holiday as well as a swimming costume.

When I looked around there were all shapes and sizes, but it never fails to amaze me how amazingly confident women are. They have lumpy bits, scars, etc and they are walking around happy and confident as ever.

I'm sitting there thinking how?! They need to bottle and sell some of that confidence making stuff!

Its so ridiculous, when we are all 80 we are going to think 'you should have just enjoyed your body'.

Not easy in practice though.

Well I have 40” hips ... so more a size 14 in bikini bottoms - don’t like them tight. For those standing around moments I have a kaftan - from next and esprit.

As for bikini’s themselves I got some great ones from pour moi / I chose the full bottom fold over style. I don’t feel too bad in them. The top half is bra size - I got the underwire ones with light padding. I’m a 34b and it looks like I have a chest.

Pinkvici22 · 23/07/2018 20:45

Great advice on here...here’s hoping we’ll all be looking and feeling fabulous on the beach!

Peanutbuttercups21 · 23/07/2018 22:14

Rollonseptember... I can feel your mindset changing Grin

How old are you? I seem to get more confident with age Confused am 47 now

Most of my friends in.their 50s have a fuck-it approach too, too old to be shy, or something

BoogleMcGroogle · 23/07/2018 22:58

Peanutbuttercups - me too. I’d never worn a bikini in my life until this year. I languished on French beaches looking more demure than the holidaying nuns in a series of uninteresting bathing suits. But in the past year I’ve started running and doing more yoga. I’m physically not much different but I’m physically more confident and I’ve figured it’s now or never and am loving my bikini. Postiano bikini from boden, navy with a bright pink halter. All very tame but I feel great !

stopgap · 24/07/2018 00:18

High-waisted retro bottoms are your friend if you have a bit of a tummy. And they’re in style right now.
