Haven’t been to a hairdresser for years

But I’d really like to now. I just don’t really know how to go about it. I take my daughter to the salon my mum uses, it isn’t ultra modern but might be a good start? I think a good cut and colour would revamp me a bit. What do I ask for?? I feel stupid saying ‘I don’t know what I want’.

Help. I’m 37 and feel about 16.

A good stylist will advise you on the sort of thing you need, get recommendations from friends whose hair you like, Good Luck

Watching! Me too. Hasn’t been since I got married I think, 6 years ago. I just cut my own, but DS2 seems to have started the greys so I want to get them coloured. No idea what to say to them!

When I go to the hairdresser I have a vague idea about what I want, but I ask them what they think would suit my face shape.
They cut hair all day every day so I would definitely say ask them if you’re not sure.

I feel stupid asking friends. How can I not know this stuff?!

“I don’t know what I want” is fine The best haircuts I ever had were when I trusted the hairdresser’s expertise. Obviously they should talk to you, and you should tell them if you want low maintenance or if you can get them to show you how to style it etc. Good luck!

Look at some hairstyles on line.

I'm about to go and get a haircut for the first time in years (on Tuesday) I have very long wavy hair. So I've researched the salon I want, checked out some online pics and told the salon when I'm booking that it's a major restyle.

But in the end I just bit the bullet and booked... Do it!

I really want to! I think I’ve even got a bit phobic about going, I feel sick at the thought but I really want the end result of that makes sense. And once I’ve been, I hope it will get easier.

If you're not the type that enjoys sitting in front of a huge mirror and chatting shite, it can be awkward, but honestly, it's a couple of hours and hairdressers have seen it all and heard it all (I imagine having the same conversation umpteen times in a day will be boring for them too!).

That's what I'm telling myself anyway!
