Suit(s) for a 6ft tall skinny 16 year old boy

My eldest DS is staying on at his current school for 6th form and I've just found out that they expect them to wear suits Confused. Putting aside how ridiculous I think this is, is there anywhere I can get him kitted out ( including shirts/ties/etc.) without bankrupting myself? I've got two younger DSs too and I usually spend ~£150-200 getting all three of them sorted for September. I can't afford to spend that amount on just one of them and then still need to get the rest of the uniform. Help?

Also he doesn't like bright coloursvat all. He literally lives in black jeans and t shirts.

I would look at M&S as they do slim fitting and longer length trousers, also maybe worth looking in Next as they do slim fitting and longer length also, Sales are on in both places so maybe worth looking at those, Shirts and ties maybe in the sale at both places and they do slim fitting.

Places like Asda don't seem to cater for the tall and slim so much, this is what we found with DS

I have a very tall skinny 6th former and I got his suit from the Jaeger outlet shop -they have them at outlet villages like McArthur Glen and you can also buy online. The men's clothes tend to be cut on the slim side, so a slim fit suit in extra long in a 36 was perfect, and cost less than £100, rather than the original £400. If your DS is 6', you probably won't need the extra long, so there should be plenty of choice.

CMOTDibbler · 20/07/2018 08:47

if you measure him so you know what size he needs, go on ebay and you'll find suits for very little - also shirts and ties.

Corneliusmurphy · 20/07/2018 08:47

Primark do suits if you don't want to spend a fortune and so do topshop

Kenworthington · 20/07/2018 08:53

I’ve bought my tall (6’3 ) sons suits from topman and (most surprisingly) burton. Skinny fit, different lengths. In fact the burton ones were the nicest and the cheapest!

Thanks everyone. That gives me a few starting points. I'm near Cheshire oaks outlet park too so I'll try there as well.

I've never had to buy a man's suit before so I didn't know where to start Grin. I doubt DS will ever need one outside of interviews after 6th form either. He's looking at doing zoology and I don't think that's a career that you are suited and booted for day-to-day Grin

Top man is best for skinny boys or Next. I got my son’s prom suit from Topman and one for sixth form from Next.

AuntieStella · 20/07/2018 12:36

Asda suits are surprisingly good.

Otherwise try Next, as they do a lot of sizes and you will be able to find bean-pole friendly suits in school suitable colours there.

Get machine washable!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 20/07/2018 13:02

I would say go for cheap ones until you know your DS has stopped growing. I bought mine two for Year 12 - one from Primark and t'other a much better quality (but reduced) one from TKMaxx. By year end he has grown out of both - leg length wise and in general size because he's still growing. And totally agree re machine washable ones!

dontknowwhattodo80 · 20/07/2018 13:36

ASOS? My 6ft 14 year old has 36in legs and ASOS do some slim fit suit trousers that he wears for school. They're £20, abit thin ( but means they dry quickly !) but best I've found!

MoltonSilver · 20/07/2018 13:57

Primark.
I have a 6ft 2 skinny teen. I got him a suit from Primark Tall range. It is, surprisingly, not awful considering how cheap it was.

oohyoudevilyou · 20/07/2018 13:58

We got DS's suit from Top Man - they do an ultra skinny fit and go down to a 34 chest in quite a few styles.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 20/07/2018 14:09

I don't think the Primark ones are bad (well some are more stylish than others!) at all. And I am quite fussy, choosy about clothes not looking 'cheap'.

dontknowwhattodo80 · 20/07/2018 14:38

Ooh @MoltonSilver , I've not seen Primark tall before! Is it online only?

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/07/2018 14:54

Next have a quite a lot of jackets and trousers in the their sale and usually in the slimmer sizes, it can take a while to match up the bits and pieces but there are bargains to be had. they do Longer length too.

Moss Bros often have good sales too.

MoltonSilver · 20/07/2018 17:10

Primark don't sell online. There's a store locator here.

LilithTheKitty · 22/07/2018 22:48

Thanks again everyone. I think I'll start with Primark and work my way up the price range until I find something he likes Grin

If you go to a very large Primark, sure your DS will find something he likes. I'm happy to spend more on a decent suit, when mine stops growing but not until... Zara do quite edgy ones at reasonable prices too.

HoneyDragon · 23/07/2018 09:04

If you’ve got a tall and skinny Next Clearance is great. In sizes for ds I mananaged to get two suits, a waistcoat and two more pairs of trousers all for £39.00 Grin

fishonabicycle · 23/07/2018 11:11

My slim six footer has a suit from Next for school. They do slim fitting and lots of sizes ... Not too expensive (for a suit, anyway).
