Would love to wear dresses but my legs aren't attractive

Age 41, size 14ish, 5''4..

Recently had varicose veins removed so couldn't wait to try on a few dresses after years of wearing jeans... Bur my calves are very wide - I have ' cankles'... Only tried on a few dresses as had very little time but was very disappointed.

I have some maxi dresses but think they swamp me. In the winter I'll wear dresses to the knee with knee high boots and tights.

But I'd love to be able to wear knee length dresses now without tights or perhaps with nude tights. Or maybe even midi length though i think I might be too short for this length?

My ideal dress would be to just below the knee and have three quarter sleeves.. but I don't think this is ever going to look good with fat calves is it?

Do you know, I think it's quite oppressive the pressure women have to choose clothes that are 'flattering'. Fashion and clothes should be fun. My view is that you should wear what you love and so what if you don't have tiny ankles. If you like your knee length dress you will look happier and better than if you try to hide your body under a maxi dress you are not so keen on.

Wedges, like espadrilles with straps, are very flattering with dresses. Also try a fake tan (a good one) as that will help to cover the veins, etc.

Wear whatever the fuck you like!

Completely agree with pp. Why does it matter whether your legs are 'attractive' (totally subjective anyway)? If you are wearing something that you really like and makes you feel happy, then that's really all that matters. I know it's easier said than done, but try just buying one dress that you really like and wear it. I bet anything you like noone comments on your ankles!

Honestly, (in the nicest possible way) who do you thinks looking??
As I go about my day, shopping, school run, dog walk etc I can hand on heart say I do not spend anytime judging people’s legs or any other part of their body for that matter. Im more likely to notice a beautiful dress or a great hair colour so go for what you like and embrace this lovely summer we’re having.
