Wedding dilemma

I am going to my friends wedding in a month, and I have no idea what to wear- the last time I went to a wedding I was about 10! I am 23 now, and don't know how formally it is acceptable to dress. I found a lovely black dress in Wallis today that is not online, but is strapless, empire line and floaty to just below the knee. It was gorgeous, but is it ok to wear black to a wedding? Or, going more casual, I tried this cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brand-new-TOPSHOP-belted-corset-lemon-size-10-rrp-28_W0QQitemZ330124394266QQihZ014QQcategoryZ314QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem on today and it was lovely. Would it look ok with a white knee length skirt? or is that too casual? I am a size 12, if that makes a difference.

I think the lemon corset top and a white skirt would look lovely.

Would also look lovely with a black pencil / A-line skirt

What about a prom dress. I wore this dress to a wedding recently and everyone commented on how lovely it was. Depends on how much you want to spend, i've got a couple of weddings in different areas so will get my moneys worth. Felt good though and wore silver shoes instead of black and silver pashmina type thing.

That's a lovely top and you could certainly wear it with a white skirt, perhaps a floaty A line thing? With a white wrap for your shoulders? Very summery. Silver shoes and handbag. Personally I wouldn't put it with black cos I don't like bright colours with black. But can accept I'm the odd one out on that.

I've worn black to a wedding before. I wore a black dress with cream bad, shoes, wrap and jewellery. It looked really smart (if I say so myself!)

I do know, however, that some people do frown at wearing black to a wedding.

I think the lemon top with a white, floaty skirt would look gorgeous. Just get a white wrap or shrug to finish it off.
