Help! Wedding outfit needed for not-slim person who lives in jeans!

I need a wedding outfit for a summer wedding.

It'll be a quirky wedding, definitely not too formal. Which is good, as I like quirky. But I live in jeans. I'm so out of touch with where to buy stuff.

I'm size 20. I tried Monsoon sale today, and bought some nice things but none of the fancy dresses were right for me.

A summer dress with a bit of colour would be nice. But, no waists, I don't have one!

Any help gratefully received!!

My body shape - massive boobs, even bigger tummy! People often think I'm very pregnant.

Medium height. Legs OKish.

Check out Lindy bop - it has some lovely ones which are a bit quirky.

Try scarlet and jo - some lovely things there

Maxi dresses will work well for your shape by the sound of it.

What's your budget? Which shops can you get to easily?

Any colours you particularly like or dislike?

How about sleeves?

Do you have shoes / hat / bag in mind, or are you going for the dress first?

OlennasWimple · 05/07/2018 23:12

This is pretty - it would give you a waist and show off your legs in a subtle way. I'm not sure about the back though

This would also help give you a waist

As would this

This would be great to show off lovely accessories

This is a lovely colour

Helloflamingogo · 05/07/2018 23:19

I love the ASOS one

yearofthewoman · 05/07/2018 23:20

What's your budget?

Ideally under £100 (I notice lots of sales have just started!)

Which shops can you get to easily?

Shops are crap here. We have exactly:

Monsoon, M&S., Next, Debenhams, TK Max, Primark. That's about it.

Will have to buy online probably.

Any colours you particularly like or dislike?

I like bright colours and black. Purples, fucsia, autumn colours, greens. Love blue and turquoise. Not at all keen on pastels. Hate baby pink.

How about sleeves?

Yes, sleeves are good! But happy to wear sleeveless with bolero thingy.

Do you have shoes / hat / bag in mind, or are you going for the dress first?

I only own trainers / converse! Some old work heels from when I worked in an office. I don't own any handbags - I carry my stuff in my jeans pocket or hippy-type bags.

Hat - I hadn't thought about a hat. A hat could be fun, yes?! I do have a nice fascinator come to think of it...

The top one I mean, the blue flowery one is lovely too.

yearofthewoman · 05/07/2018 23:37

Ooh I like that first Asos one OlennasWimple .

I wonder if it'd look OK on my though, imagine a bigger model who looks like she's about 8 months pregnant!

I love the Lindy Bob stuff Helloflamingogo!

But - I don't think it'd really work on me as I don't really wear make up and wouldn't know the first thing about styling myself to suit the style.

Can you afford to buy a few different dresses to try and then return the ones that don't make the cut?

Basically I think you're looking for something with a V neck, detail around the waist and a pattern, to best flatter your body shape

OlennasWimple · 05/07/2018 23:47

And tell us more about the hat....? (I love hats!)

Coco2891 · 05/07/2018 23:48

I have come in here to ask the exact same !! Thanks Olennas wimple i wouldn’t have thought to look on ASOS . Good luck Op finding a dress xxx

Coco2891 · 05/07/2018 23:49

I might get some Spanx too 😂

OlennasWimple · 06/07/2018 00:00

Some more dresses to throw into the mix:

Studio 8 - maybe too pink?

Jumpsuit - don't rule them out, they can be very flattering! This length is good to show off your legs too

Brighter jumpsuit

Turquoise jump suit though less sure about the tummy area on this one

Floaty dress - maybe too conservative for you?

yearofthewoman · 06/07/2018 00:11

I love the idea of a jumpsuit! But - I've tried many on over the years and what appears in the mirror is never what I think I'll see. They don't suit me at all, I look like an oversized baby in a babygro!!

These seem to be a different shape though...

I do like the black one.... hmmm.....

I couldn't wear that studio 8 one, I need the waist to be higher - literally under the boobs, or no waist. Put it this way - would you have work that when heavily pregnant?

Yes, V-necks really suit me. You're good at this :)

Coco2891 thanks - you too!

Spanx is a good call Grin

Get on ASOS. They have a Curve range, and returning is easy. Looking at pictures of models wearing dresses was miles easier than looking at dresses on hangers and trying on at home is much better.
