Dd1's class is organising a fashion show at school for Enterprise.

I have just been laughed at, at length, by dd's friend's mum (who was dj-ing at rehearsal today) for giving dd a pair of socks to wear with her leggings.

As if that was the most ridiculous thing ever. Socks with leggings.

Is there a site or something that I can use to keep me up to date with fashions because I know I will be in the dark for the next 10 years and she will end up hating me.

Well, in the winter I can see wearing them and doing a layered look

Is this what you're looking for?

pointydog · 25/05/2007 22:30

Thanks, jabber. I think what I really need is to see pictures of girls dressed, rather than clothes items, so I can fully take in what they have on their feet etc.

in fact, I think you';ve helped me realise the root of my problem.

I need to re-title my thread.

This is a BBC fashion, make-up & hair news site aimed at teenagers. Good luck!

Slink

Smurfgirl · 25/05/2007 22:32

leggings+ballet pumps

pointydog · 25/05/2007 22:34

wow, that slink looks ideal. I'll show that to dd, bride

OP posts:
pointydog · 25/05/2007 22:34

That would be no socks then, smurf?

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 25/05/2007 22:38

I've just looked at the Cosmo Girl & Ellegirl sites and they're rubbish - very little fashion but lots of crappy celeb stuff.

Good point about smelly shoes.

(She is actually a var nice woman, we're sort of pals but she just so obviously would not do the sock thing and couldn't help finding it funny)

pointy it still sounds a bit bitchy to comment on the way a child is dressed, imho...

but then my dd was out in leggings, under denim skirt, with socks, plus doodles today, there was a space between the leggings and the socks, iyswim... and it was bloody freezing

Dogsby · 26/05/2007 14:13

Dogsby · 26/05/2007 14:22

you need to read magazines yourself pd

pointydog · 27/05/2007 10:40

I am unable to buy magazines as my head-voice shouts NO at the price of them.

My mum gives me her mags every now and then and she buys loads but they're not young fashiony enough.

I do like that slink.

New Look & H&M have got ballet pump socks

pirategirl · 27/05/2007 10:52

what about looking thru catalogues, like i dunno, empire aren't they free to order?

Blondilocks · 27/05/2007 10:53

DD chooses to wear short socks with her leggings & it doesn't look that terrible.

What about trainer socks or something like that? Although not sure where to get them for children so if anyone knows pls can you let me know? (thanks).

What was the friend's mum wearing? I find that most people who criticise the clothes of others tend to look hideous themselves.

misdee · 27/05/2007 11:00

dd1 wears leggings with leg warmers+socks, skirt over the top, socks and funky t shirt.

i let her dress herself. she is 7. and nearly always looks cool.

foxinsocks · 27/05/2007 11:02

ooh I feel your pain pointy (and I do think that woman was outta line to speak like that).

Top Shop is good for teen fashion. If you have a big shopping town near you, go and get a coffee, park yourself on a bench and watch the kids hanging around the shopping centres.

pointydog · 27/05/2007 11:13

I like the woman! She is a larf. She just gently take s the piss about my idea of fashion. I fin dher quite helpful.

missdee - your dd maybe has som enatural fashion sense. I feel me and mine have to work on it!

OP posts:
Hideehi · 27/05/2007 11:18

I feel your pain, My DD takes my best efforts of M&S's finest offering and then adds things like my old scarfs around her waist and makes herself look like a twit. I don't like to crush her spirit but equally don't want her laughed at either.
I subscribed to cosmo and buy almost everything from Zara and M&S you can't go wrong.

SueW · 27/05/2007 11:30

DD (10) would never wear socks with leggings.

Look at the children's clothing websites e.g. Next . The other shops we'd use e.g. Debenhams, Zara, H&M have useless websites so won't help.

In winter isn't it leggings + legwarmers/slouch socks/boots? (She says, remembering her own teens in the 80s altho I did the mod/ska thing then so wasn't very good at the 80s thing)
