If you're tall, what do you wear on a night out?

I'm 5'10", in an ideal world I'd wear heels (like I did when I was 18 and didn't care) but I just don't feel comfortable in them, like I'm too tall! But any outfit I think of would end up looking too casual with flats really, and just don't feel dressy enough! Help me! I'm 27 if that helps...

I'm your height and tonight I wore a navy halterneck wide legged jumpsuit with silver sparkly sandals that have a very low wedge. I felt comfy and glam - in fact heels would've felt over done.

I'm 6ft I usually wear a vest top with a blazer sleeves pushed up with harem
Pants or boyfriend jeans with Superga's or sometimes Stan Smiths.

Used to wear heels but I can't be doing with aching feet anymore and when I go out it's all about dancing so footwear is with that in mind.

Never really wear skirts, sometimes a jumpsuit with gladiator sandals or flared trousers with slouchy top and modest jewellery, either large hoop earrings and statement ring or bangle or a statement necklace and no earrings never both. And always a clutch bag

Glamorous sandals, in this weather.

I’m quite tall (5’8”) and I wear heels because I don’t care about feeling too tall. However if I were wearing flats on a night out I’d show more arm and leg. Would you risk a short (ish) dark denim skirt, gladiator sandals and a sleeveless top? At 5’10”, your arms and legs will be your best assets.

Just to be clear, it's not that I feel too tall in heels, it's just that being over 50 my feet have had enough of them other than for the odd occasion.

I also find that I can wear more of my smarter clothes without feeling over done if I wear flatter footwear. And it feels 'younger' somehow, less 'try hard'.

slapmyassandcallmejudy · 01/07/2018 07:12

See this is the thing, when I think of flats I presume a dress or skirt would look silly. So I go to high waist jeans and a nice top. Just never feels 'dressy' enough

I'm the same height as you and wear heels, mid height usually for very dressed up occasions.

For nights out I usually go flat for comfort. Last night I wore flat gold sandals with a dress on a night out, its easier to wear flats in the summer, although flat ankle boots can work well with dresses and skirts in winter.

Jumpsuit! Jumpsuit!

VanillaLatteAndCake · 01/07/2018 16:56

I'm 5'11 and wear a heel on a night out. They're all low heels though, no more than 2 inches. I'm currently wearing skinny jeans and camisole top. I recently bought a shirt dress which I have worn with flat gladiator sandals due to hot weather.

Just bought a jumpsuit from next it looks great with a wedge or low heel

Gammeldragz · 01/07/2018 19:42

I'm the same height and I struggle with this too, especially as my DH is a few inches shorter. Also I have big feet, 8 or 9 and hate shoe shopping so many outfits are ruined by not having suitable footwear.
In summer I wear birkenstocks with everything. I'd like some smarter sandals that I can dress up a bit. I wobble in pointy heels.

ColinsVeryJolly · 01/07/2018 20:07

I’m not tall tiny in fact but have a 40th do coming up and I really want to avoid heels. Today I bought some lovely wide leg cropped trousers from Tesco. They look gorgeous with a satin cami tucked in and my strappy flat sandals. I’m really pleased with the outfit, dressy but summery and girly.

Maybe something similar would work for you.

LadyBundleBrent · 01/07/2018 21:35

For the tall people who are suggesting jumpsuits - where do you find ones which don't give camel toe?! I'm 5'8" with not a particularly long body and I've had limited success - a few from whistles (though it's hit and miss even in that one shop). Thanks!

Dress probably a block colour and some matching accessories with flats/sandals is what I wear but I have quite a bohemian style. I also can't wear heels because of issues with my bones. I'm 5ft 7.
