Yes Coughy it is exactly that, money. Except for PETA, that is more about power and lobbying, but you can google that yourself. They use scare tactics, and it works.
Animal farming comes down to economics. There is nothing 'wooly' about making a livelihood out of any animal product, be it meat or other products. We the consumer want animal products, and whilst we pretend we are willing to pay more for 'ethical' products, the simple truth is that we don't really.
If we really care, then we need to stop eating milk meat eggs cheese etc from supermarkets (yes all of it including organic and so-called free range), and stop using moth killer, flea and fly sprays, mosquito sprays because it kills insects who whilst they don't make silk, do have a right to life, yes? Boiled alive? That is quick compared to the sorry, long, agonised staggering hours of a poisoned fly.
And we really, really need to stop wearing the natural fabric cotton, one of the most chemical crops in the world that kills millions of insects and the animals that rely on them in food chains, and the fish and birds that die from the crop run-off into the waterways.
And we need to stop eating anything that is sprayed, vaccinated, fertilised etc etc. Because it kills something, usually in really large numbers.
I absolutely agree that it is good to make a stand. But be very, very wary about anyone who tells you just where that stand should be, because it may just be the thing that stops people from really asking questions.
