Trendy but smart boys prom outfit suitable for this weather (Year 6/Age 10)?

DS has had a shite year, lots of friendships changing / falling out and I want him to feel brill for his prom to end the year on a good note.

Not sure what year 6 boys wear to their end of junior proms? I'm expecting the girls will be going all out with big dresses so want him to be smart but not sure a standard wedding boys "suit" is quite right? He's still only 10 and is very "young" compared to his more sophisticated friends and I really don't want him to have the piss taken out of him. He's not got a clue what he wants to wear and not terribly excited about it at all really.

Any nice suggestions of cool but smart prom outfits? He's a tall lad for his age, already past five foot, if that's a factor.

he's 10
my son won chinos and a polo shirt for his end of year 6 disco
with canvas pumps

can you ask the mum's of his pals what they're wearing?
i really hate this 'prom' nonsense for little kids
shorts and a nice shirt would;d be perfect in this weather

I'm not a fan of it myself. When your kid isn't the centre of a social group it's something else for them to feel awkward about. I'll definitely ask some of the other parents what they're planning.

Most boys in ds’s class wore shirts and trousers last year. No suits.
Some boys in dd’s class are hiring tuxedos this year, but most are going for shirts and trousers. I’d try a linen shirt/ trousers. Boys seem to go less dressy than girls.

Tuxes! OMFG just imagining that... He loves dogs - I'd love to find him a smart shirt with a small print like that. Plus some nice trousers and a haircut - that might be enough!

Our yr 6 prom is 'smart casual' so my ds is wearing chinos and a shirt.

The girls, according to my son, seem to be going all out with the dresses/hair/makeup etc. It's all they can talk about at lunch and break times.

My DS wore this with smart jeans and shoes. He looked adorable 😍

I didn't go to my end of yr 6 disco - had a horrible school year being bullied and chose not to go

Round here it tends to be shirt tie and waistcoats liked the one linked above. It would be good with jeans/denim or chunk shirts and converse.

Denim or chino shorts.

A couple of weeks ago that was DS's opinion on the matter too, sorry that you had a crap year. If he said at the last minute he didn't want to I'd not make him go.

We didn't have them back in the 80s so I was spared!
