Am I am hourglass or a pear?

I really can't tell and it's driving me mad. I've always thought I was hourglass shaped, but my thighs and hips are pretty big so maybe I'm a pear. I also can't work out if the widest part below my waist is my thighs or hips (Never entirely sure where one ends!). Please can I draw on the hive mind of mumsnet to finally get an answer?

I've lost weight and need new clothes but I hate clothes shopping and am not very good at it so I thought shopping for styles based on body shape would help...

I'd say a bit more hourglass than pear but monitor your measurements as you get smaller, if you are a pear you'll lose inches off your bust before your hips. I'm an hourglass amd lost a couple of stones last year. For every inch I lost on my hips and bust I lost 2 on my waist. My hips and bust ratio remained the same (now: hips 37", bust 36").

Thanks everyone for all the replies.

skittles excellent advice, thank you.
itsbetter yes I was definitely a size bigger on the bottom before. But only one.
creme I think my big thighs are about 7-8" bigger than hips.
pickle I've always been scared of cropped trousers, not sure why. The dresses shapes I seem to follow anyway, but often can't get the waist on the right place.
peony I love a v neck. Really do struggle with waistlines unless getting tall clothes. I always loved bootcut but hard to get sometimes now, I've never quite looked right in skinnies but maybe I just need to right length top.
count I think I lost my inches pretty evenly. I've posted my before photo and I don't feel my shape changed that much apart from waist being more defined.

I would say a slight pear. You look fabulous, btw!

The reason I think pear is the thighs. When I was drawn around to make a Goliath picture for a teaching display, the outline looked as though I had melted like a candle.

Your shoulders are strong and your bust is not big, everything is in proportion, but your thighs (and perhaps bum) are a bit heavier which for me spells pear!

Well done on your weight loss!

You look fab OP!! Don't really know what shape you are, but I am a pear - very small on top, small waist & wide at the hips. All my weight carries on my thighs/bum. If you think this describes you then I'd say pear Smile

Somewhere between a rectangle and an hourglass. Id say top and bottom halves too balanced yo be a pear. Im nit sure the waist-hip ratio is high enough for an hourglass. Apparently 10" difference min

lasttimeround · 24/06/2018 17:20

Spoke yoo soon later pics show more pear.
Should also say whatever you are ya looks grrreat!

Gammeldragz I've a very similar shape to you, currently a lot larger but with the continued help of bootcamp not forever:)
I'm 5ft6in and when last at 11st I had wide shoulders, only slightly narrower than my hips a 36B/C bra size, very defined waist, and wide hips with all excess weight on my bum and thighs and love handles.
I came to the conclusion with the help of Trinny and Susannah that I'm a Cello shape or it's the nearest definition I've found anyway.
