With the hot weather next week in mind I have bought these shorts

I will of course be styling them with a thick sheen of sweat and a bright red face (I am NOT good with hot weather).

However apart from this delightful look, what else would you wear with them? I don't love the tucked-in T-shirt look and I think it will be too hot for that anyway. Should I just play safe and wear floaty tops and flip-flops? I have a couple of v casual meet-ups next week that I'd quite like to look half decent for: a friends' BBQ and a casual work event outdoors. So I'd rather avoid flip-flops if possible!

fwiw I have decent legs (hence the shorter length shorts that these very Style boards have introduced me too, SO much better than bum-maximising longger shorts), and a size 10ish and am 41.

I do have floaty skirts/dresses for next week too but I feel like rocking some shorts in the baking weather as it's the only time I feel remotely comfortable to do so!

Maybe a linen shirt, pretty cotton tops monsoon have some nice ones on sale at the moment, zara is usually good for cotton tops.
Some pretty sandals/sliders instead of flip flops if you want to be a little less casual.

Oh a linen shirt is a fab idea, thank you! I have a nice white one somewhere but it might look a bit too monochrome... will try it though and see.

Will look at the monsoon sale, thank you for that tip, I have bought some really decent tops from Monsoon earlier this year having previously derided them for being shapeless, baggy things. Either they've changed their style or I have!

I have some quite ncie bright green sandals somewhere that might be nice, they're not super-smart but they're decent and better than flip-flops.

Thanks v much!

@JessiCake 👍🏼 M&S have some nice linen shirts at the moment.
Bright green sandals sound fab.

Forgot to say those shorts are lovely, am planning a little foray to H&M now myself.

I bought those shorts today too, in black. Planning on wearing them with loose v-necked tshirts and cotton or linen shirts with rolled up sleeves and open neck.
Fancying them in other colours and patterns too.

Oh, hello shorts twin RubbishRobot! They're nice, aren't they?

Shirts will look terrific with them, I think, but I overheat so horrendously I worry that even linen, if in shirt form, will make me too hot next week (predictions of more than 25 degrees panic me, and it's predicted to be 28ish here, which in London always feels even hotter). However if cooler weather comes along soon I will definitely be wearing them with loose shirts with rolled-up sleeves, that's a look I really like.

For next week I think I'd better focus on floaty camisole-type tops that don't show TOO much skin but that keep me cooler than a shirt. I'll plunder the wardrobe and see what I can dig out, as I'm pretty short on cash right now!

Do you think a nice belt would work with them, just to accessorise them up a bit? I have a nice dark-ish tan one.

Sorry if these are really basic questions - hot weather dressing does NOT come naturally to me...

Yes nice thin one would definitely dress them up, would you say they are true to size? As never sure what size I am in H&M find the sizing a bit bonkers.
