People with long grey hair look amazing, wish more older people did this

I really hope I have long grey hair when I’m older

Yeah I've seen a couple of women round town who look great with long grey hair. One has a single long, thick plait and another has very curly hair and wears it shoulder length.

But I don't think it's only social pressure that stops women, although I know that's part of it. A lot go short because their hair has got thinner with age - it's a common thing, especially after the menopause.

Sadly I think Floisme is right. My fine hair has been thinning for a while. I'm only 43 and not at all menopausal

I stopped using permanent dyes over a year ago and hoped that reducing the damage would stop the thinning, but I don't think it is making much difference.

Depends on the texture of hair. Mine has become coarser as I've got older. I would look like Worzel Gummidge if it wasn't cut, thinned, coloured and tamed.

Mine won't grow past barely-touching-shoulder length.

It's much easier to keep it modern with crisp edges and sharp shapes if it's short. Not that it works as well on riotous (ancient) curlies.

First time I've ever heard my appearance described as 'amazing' on Mumsnet - I am very happy with my long grey hair.

I've been waiting for my hair to go grey for exactly this reason, my mum went partially grey at around 21, but so far I have jet black hair at 27.

I tried the going grey gracefully thing and I looked like I'd been dug up! Long grey hair looks fab on others. My hair is just below shoulder length, but has thinned horribly (I'm 48), I don't think I'll get it any longer. But I do hate the pressure on women to have their hair cut when they get older. I had my bum length hair cut when I hit 30, as I felt I was too old for it!

Agree - Evelyn Glennie especially looks amazing. DD17 tells me only creative and cool people (and models) can get away with it, and I would look like a witch. And my hairdresser just said 'You'd hate it'. Still tempted!
