Can you find me a dress for a wedding?

So, I'm going to a wedding in August and can't find a dress I like. Help!

I'll have (at the time) 5 month old dd with me, so I need something that's breastfeeding friendly.

I'm 5'8, size 10 hourglass / a bit pear shaped.

I suit bright, cool colours - dark greens, purples, cobalts etc or icy colours.

Budget is around £150, but preferably less. I've got baby shoes and a clutch bag, so if the dress could go with them, that would be great!

And I'd prefer natural fibres - no polyester!

Can you S&N gurus find me a dress?

What styles do you like ? Do you prefer longer dresses ?

fruitbrewhaha · 08/06/2018 13:21

Tricky OP. I'm not finding much that opens up in the front.
John Lewis have 1300 dresses listed as suitable for a wedding guest. Have you looked there?

ByeByeTrain · 08/06/2018 13:23

I like quite classic, glamourous styles. I'm not really a floaty dress person, although I'm willing to give it a try! I think above the knee or longer.

Yes, I've searched through John Lewis and not found anything. I think it's the breastfeeding friendly bit that's the problem I'm finding.

This is a jumpsuit

I've just bought this for a black tie occasion. It's absolutely stunning on, very flattering about the tummy and can easily BF in it.

fruitbrewhaha · 08/06/2018 13:30

Would you wear a jumpsuit? The one a linked to doesn't have a lot of stock on JL but may do somewhere else.

Jumpsuits are more likely to have some buttons or a cross over at the front.

fruitbrewhaha · 08/06/2018 13:32

That a lovely dress CAAKE. Might be a bit hot for a day in August.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 08/06/2018 13:43

Have you looked at maternity brands? I had some lovely smart dresses from Mamas & Papas, also Jojo Maman Bebe do some smarter stuff I think.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 08/06/2018 13:43

Sorry just to be clear, maternity brands for nursing dresses (not ones with a bump)

ProseccoPoppy · 08/06/2018 13:48

I’ve been told you can breastfeed in the Lindy bop Ophelia and Octavia dresses (which comes in loads of colours and I think are pretty glamorous in a vintage-y way - I am ordering one today for a wedding I am going to at which I will need to be able to breastfeed too. www.lindybop.co.uk/octavia-eau-de-nil.html

ISeeTheLight · 08/06/2018 14:00

this from H&M?

also an option

or this

this website also has non-maternity nursing dresses

But yes, otherwise look at maternity dresses that are suitable for nursing (eg Seraphine)

SirVixofVixHall · 08/06/2018 15:49

Wrap dresses generally are easy for breastfeeding. I wore one to a special lunch when dd was six months old, it was July, and I found a silk jersey wrap dress in the sales.

peonylover22 · 08/06/2018 16:16

Are you a member of the Can I Breastfeed In it? FB group? I’m not BF anymore but there’s usually loads of good suggestions there

goose1964 · 08/06/2018 22:43

There are a load here, some are mini dresses but some more formal ones too

www.silkfred.com/l/breastfeeding-dresses

ByeByeTrain · 09/06/2018 09:51

Thank you everyone for your suggestions.

I find nursing dresses look a bit frumpy on me and a lot of the plain navy wrap dresses are more what I'd wear for work, rather than a wedding. Some lovely dresses from SilkFred, but they're all polyester and I dont fancy polyester in August with a baby in a sling ... I like the idea of a jumpsuit, but not sure about going to the loo with a sleeping baby in the sling and a jumpsuit!

Oh dear, I'm obviously fussier than I realised.

Is this dressy enough for a wedding? www.johnlewis.com/mint-velvet-blossom-print-shirt-dress-multi/p3491367

Or I was thinking of a skirt and too, maybe this skirt m.boden.co.uk/en-gb/womens-skirts/below-knee-skirts/t0098-nvy/womens-navy-brush-stroke-spray-lola-skirt or this one m.boden.co.uk/en-gb/womens-skirts/below-knee-skirts/t0161-ivo/womens-ivory-multi-embroidery-marjorie-organza-skirt?
Any sugestions for tops to go with them? The one in picture is sold out in my size.

Thank you again for the ideas Smile

I know what you mean OP. It's hard to find something formal.

You may get a bit hot in the mint velvet dress, especially if your carry the baby in a sling. It's nice but not exactly weddingy.

Perhaps separates is they way to go. That either of the those skirts would look nice with a white top/shirt.

This one opens up at the front and give a sort of vintage 50s feel that goes with the skirts

I really like the mint velvet one - think it would be perfect.

lenalove · 12/06/2018 10:31

Agreed - think the mint velvet one is lovely!
