Shirt dresses

I'm looking for a couple for the summer. Cotton, simple, proper shirt collar, slightly fitted/belted.

Am happy with knee-length, a bit above, midi. Will go longer at a push. Short, mid or long sleeves.

Darker/brighter colours preferred. I generally like prints and stripes too.

I don't think that's too much to ask. But can I find anything, or are they all polyester, viscose/crumply linen/impractical white/tacky florals/covered in arsing frills/thigh-skimming in length/fecking potato sacks from places like Toast? Go on, have a guess

Can anyone suggest anywhere? Budget is high-street: sub-£75 ideally. Could push boat out to sub-£95 at a pinch.

I'm with you, Nikita, although with 50s style I look worse than perky cheesecake - I look like an extra in a village production of Grease done on the cheap. Other people seem to manage to look glam. Emily & Fin always have some cotton shirt dresses but they are all prints so far this year & not very Nurse Ratched.

Oooh, Emily & Fin dresses are pretty! Alas probably not for me though; they are setting off my Grayson Perry-ometer...

I tried on a lovely Seasalt 50s style dress the other day. My son said I looked like Mary Poppins, my husband liked it though, not sure what that says! I find that anything with buttons has an awful tendency to gape at the chest, unless I go up a couple of sizes, which then makes me look frumpy.

Zara have a lot of shirt dresses in at the moment and I found a good one in M&S last week, which surprised me.

I love this green dress from Zara. Boden have lots of cotton dresses with midi skirts as well.
