Red at a wedding?

Someone once told me that you shouldn't wear red to a wedding, and it's stuck in my head. Found a gorgeous dress for friends upcoming wedding and it's red. Is it a faux pas? Tia

It is odd but for some reason I am avoiding red because I think it looks like you are trying to upstage the bridge (I of course will not be doing so, I don't kid myself!).
