strappy top/tankini top, shirt or hoody over the top, and combat style trousers where the legs can either be rolled up or zipped up to make shorts depending on the temperature. Not amazing sartorial elegance, but practical!

DarrellRivers · 20/05/2007 19:28

so only one father, lots of mummies and lots of children (or only one mother slightly less exciting)
very cultish

EnidTheInvisible · 20/05/2007 19:29

a coat

filthymindedvixen · 20/05/2007 20:01

new gorgeous halter neck tankini top and bottoms, with either black sarong for walking to tea hut etc or cambat shorts - or a fab black dress I have whcih just goes on top and looks great and dries incredibly fast if you paddle. With wrap over cardi or hoodie for those stiff sea breezes.

In cornwall there are family beaches where i feel slim and goddessy and will wear a tankini - and young dudey surfer beaches, where I feel old and saggy and ugly and wear a burkah.

In scarborough, it doesn't matter what you wear because you still look 1000 per cent better than any of the other women on the beach who are invariably generously built, boiled pink and wearing cheap and nasty-looking versions of Not Quite nough clothing.

Enid, had the suit man et famille come straight from church?
