No - I would be heartbroken. God it was the most money I ever spent on a dress and is there was one person I wanted to impress that inspite of 2 children I still could look amazing it was dh!

CODalmighty · 19/05/2007 18:49

hmm
sil wore a modern normal dress
she looked great
db didn tlike it

Washe expecting something traditional?

How did she take it?

I would be really upset

suzycreamcheese · 19/05/2007 18:50

me...i would be able to tell by his face .....

has she bought it or just pointed to pic in mag or something?..

MaureenMLove · 19/05/2007 18:51

What a swine! I don't think my dh would've said he didn't like it, but he does complain that I still put it on every year on our anniversary because I always get p*ssed! It cost a lot of money, I'm not gonna wear it once am I!

CODalmighty · 19/05/2007 18:51

she just thought oh fgs what do you know

shonaspurtle · 19/05/2007 18:52

Was this after the fact??

Blondilocks · 19/05/2007 18:52

He's entitled to his opinion. How did he say it? If he said you looked awful in that dress it'd be bad, but if he said he didn't like the dress much that's not so bad.

I couldn't spend too much money on a wedding dress. A normal dress, fine, but not a wedding dress to be worn once.

But I would rather have an expensive car & a cheap wedding than an expensive wedding!

shonaspurtle · 19/05/2007 18:52

Good for her

nogoes · 19/05/2007 18:52

Why oh why did he do that??? Dh loved my dress, it was very me so I would have been worried if he did not like it. What did your db say to sil?

chonky · 19/05/2007 18:52

I'd be gutted

MrsBadger · 19/05/2007 18:53

you are allowed to say 'I never would have pictured you in something like that' or 'I'd never have chosen it' or 'I don't know much about dresses'
but
must always be followed by 'you looked amazing in it'

lilibet · 19/05/2007 18:54

asked dh what he thinks he just said "should he have lied to her??"

i think he should, yes!!

PeachyChocolateEClair · 19/05/2007 19:14

I didn't like my wedding dress (was 6 weeks post difficult birth and feeling extremely ill and low when I had to choose one, I didnt dare try on wa white one as I really wanted due to a recent haemorrhage incident (TMI sorry)

So I wouldn't blame him one bit

In fact it owuld be nice if someone agreed with me on the subject

It was a size too big I was that desperate to get back home to bed

CODalmighty · 19/05/2007 19:14

OP posts:
electra · 19/05/2007 19:15

yes, think he would have

PeachyChocolateEClair · 19/05/2007 19:26

My Dh was always really enthusiastic about my appearance

until one day we were in Monsoon and a friend came in

True I got the first genuine opinion I'd had in ages

but did they really have to veto everything I liked under £175?

I realised what was going on when friend had to run and said to Dh 'you're really generous getting her that dress, well done'

thought I as I paid MYSELF

heifer · 19/05/2007 19:27

I am not sure if my DH has any idea what my wedding dress even looked like!...

He was looking too much like a startled rabbit to look at it, and of course was totally dewitched by my beauty to look down....

PeachyChocolateEClair · 19/05/2007 19:30

Actually my Dh bought some really fabulous gold brocade frock coat (was when they were 'in') that completely outshone me, so all the qway through peole were coming up to comment on how lovely HE looked!

grrrrr.

YeahBut · 19/05/2007 20:00

Would have thought that it would make the next 50 years or so a tad easier if he had just kept his opinion to himself. Or even lied.
I'd have been quite hurt if dh had said that to me. And I'd always have it in the back of my mind when I thought about my wedding day.

twinsetandpearls · 20/05/2007 02:47

When I came downstairs in my wedding dress my future sister in law (not ex) said "Oh my God we would have bought you a dress if we had known!"

My dress was lovely by the way.

ghosty · 20/05/2007 06:02

LOL cod ...

My dh liked my dress but wasn't expecting it. He was expecting a 'proper' wedding dress so was a bit surprised to see what I was wearing.
Like your fab SIL I told him he knew nothing and still now I wouldn't look for his advice or approval on what I wear ...
IMO I should look beautiful to him no matter what

BTW .. in my new 'burb there is a ladies clothes shop call "ecod" ... I titter every time I walk past it ....
