Need a revamp of clothes

looking for help. Have lost my way with my clothes, have gone through menopause and am a different shape and heavier than I ever have been. I have slim legs, no bum but no waist either. Carrying about a stone too much weight on my tum and back. My wardrobe is full of clothes I can't even do up and am waiting to fit into again. It isn't happening and it's not likely to either I need to accept this.

I have money to buy new stuff but have no idea what works and what to wear or how to coordinate stuff. I wear a suit to work as I can't work out how to look smart in a more casual way which would be better and more in tune with my role. I have a load of mismatched and ill fitting stuff.

What should I do next?

I'm in a similar situation OP. I'm thinking of buying one or two things that look nice, but will still fit reasonably well while I lose weight. For example, have just bought the Hush Tara dress for £59, which should be useful through the Summer, dressed up or down.

After losing some weight, I'm going to get rid of most of my clothes and go for mostly good quality capsule wardrobe - decent jeans, blazer, linen shirts and dresses, plain straight skirts etc.

Most of my clothes are just to cover me up, and I think it's time to buy what suits me (both in style and colour) and isn't just cheap and disposable.

I have day off today - may start with throwing out the worst of the old stuff. It's daunting to face each day with a battle for a set of fitting clothes that look even okay.

Have even started wearing my boyfriend's t shirts. He's an XXXL, they don't fit or flatter. Not good.
The Tara dress is lovely but definitely wouldn't flatter me. I need shape just under my boobs only. No waist.

Take everything that does not fit and hide it in a suitcase (you can charity shop, sell, swap... later)
Get some decent underwear. Your norks will have changed also. And don't forget the comfy pants.
Replace boyfriends big shirts with something more flattering, either hangs from the norks or something with a bit of an empire line.
Shirt with under bust seem, a bit frumpy
drapey t-shirt replacement
invent new hips
Don't panic buy. Start with a few basics and work your way back to sensational gradually.

This would probably work, I have a similar one, but the skirt is straighter.

I'm not good at advising about what clothes to buy for shapes OP, but i can vouch for the power of decluttering.

I bought that mari condo (sp?) book and spent a week going through my stuff and threw away more gubbins than i even knew i owned! It was painful and fantastic in equal measure.

I did the lay your clothes out on the bed one catagory at a time (bottoms, tops, dresses, ect) and be truthful about when you last wore it and will you ever wear it. Do yes, no and maybe piles. Put the no's in bin bags chuck the bags out the bedroom door and consign them to charity. When you get to the end do the maybe pile again.

See what you have left. If there's bits you like and that suit you then work from that. I ended up with about 10 items of clothing in total. Bit scary.

If nothing else it's great for revealing what you tend to keep buying over and over and over a-bloody-gain and don't need to buy any more! For me it was black tops and cardigans. This was a couple of years ago and I still hover about near the black tops when i go clothes shopping but now i resist Grin

sorry for the ramble.
