Hi
I am going to a very nice restaurant with work next week and and I have no idea what to wear, it has a dress code that states elegant dresses, smart separates or tailored trousers. (Business dress including tie and jacket for men)
I live in jeans and have nothing suitable but also on a very tight budget (£30) , any suggestions?
I’m mid 20s, a size 12/14 (pear shaped) and 5ft 9. Open to any suggestions but thinking of going for something simple that I can easily re-wear

What shoes have you got that are suitable? What colours do you like?

Without knowing I would say I would probably go for a skater style or fit and flare dress.

I haven´t been in store but Matalan can be good. This isn´t a skater dress but could be used for lots of things, like Christmas and is twenty quid.

Dorothy Perkins also v.good for a swift dress. Simple for 16 glam 26.99

If you got the black one you could get shoes too. e.g.

Any good?

It's a work event so I'd wear something similar to what I'd wear at work, but possibly new (to then be worn at work in the future). Separates will give you the most flexibility and you might have something suitable in your wardrobe already, e.g. smart trousers, leopard print flats and a silk(y) blouse.

Have a look on boohoo basic dresses are cheap but fit like a dream. Fit and flare or a wrap dress would look best

Hoppinggreen · 28/05/2018 19:16

Try Sainsbury’s.
Look for a dress with jacket so if it’s warm in the restaurant you can take the jacket off and be smart but comfy

CrikeyGinger · 28/05/2018 19:21

I’d also wear new work clothes if you wear ‘business dress’ to work.

This could be easily glammed up with jewellery and a pair of heels ,but would look ok with trainers for normal wear

Woah just looked at boohoo.com - don't buy any of that!

Sainsbury's is a good idea - get a navy or black dress that can be dressed up, then use it later for work, interview and funeral stand-by. This? tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/p/Sleeveless-Smart-Dress/131973486-Black

I was going to suggest sainsbury.

Also next online has a clearance section.

LtGreggs · 28/05/2018 20:55

Or this is summery - put formal hair/shoes/jacket with it to avoid looking like a holiday? tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/p/Knot-Front-Dress/133480360-Pink?viewType=crossSell

Sorry to disappear been out for the evening, my work isn’t standard office base so my usual attire is dark jeans and a shirt or blouse sadly none of my trousers from previous office days fit anymore. I love that Tesco jumpsuit and the style of the Sainsbury’s dress, think I will pop to see if they have them in store to try on. I hadn’t considered supermarkets so thankyou.
I have smart navy heels and then smart brown or black flats.
Do you think something plain and then a bright jacket could work? I want to avoid looking to much like I’m going for a day in an office

M&co have lots of suitable dresses for under £40.

I would get something that you could dress down for summer with sandals.

this. or this

Snitchesgetcandy · 29/05/2018 10:32

Thanks lucked, I love that maxi dress but not sure it would be formal enough. I’ve decided at the grand old age of 26 I should probably own at least one formal outfit that fits. We do have an m&co in town though so I will have a look, another shop that never occurred to me Smile
