£90 for a pair of fugly sandals! Their clothes aren't high end or top quality so why are they so bloody expensive?!

I've bought Boden for many years. I do think the quality isn't as good as it used to be. Of the last five items I bought recently I had to send two back because I wasn't happy with the quality.

BWatchWatcher · 27/05/2018 14:52

Huh, we have the dragon trousers and pjs and they wore really well. DS wears them every couple of weeks. I’d send them back if they’re not up to standard.

Effendi · 27/05/2018 20:13

I'd never heard of Boden till I joined Mumsnet.
Granted I've lived abroad for quite a few years.
Is is a southern middle class thing? I'm northern working class.

They have much better customer service and returns than White Stuff/ & other stories/ Laura Ashley and are a similar price point, they are cheaper cheaper than Hobbs/ coast/ LK Bennett; better quality than gap/ m and s.

The main drawback for me is that the cut tends to be too high waisted.

And I most certainly don’t want to look sexy when teaching iambic pentameter to 15 year olds!

LovelyBranches · 27/05/2018 22:50

Bwatch, this isn’t a great photo but here are the dragon trousers. They are so bobbled and the wash fade is terrible. I bought them in January. Would that be too long to take back?

The customer service policy seems good, but actually speaking to them they're not as consistently pleasant as they used to be. I paid for an order using our joint business account card, and had to give the business address, I said 'our' and the woman said 'I think you mean your husband's business address.' Shock
They also failed to help with a tech issue a couple of years ago; one of them grew quite cross and at first didn't reply at all, which meant I couldn't checkout with my login, on any device or browser. I've had to checkout as a paypal guest ever since as it was never resolved!

Also bought spotty trousers (children's) where the spots washed off after a few washes.

I'd contact about a return, lovelybranches. I never would have guessed those had only been bought in January.

BWatchWatcher · 28/05/2018 00:37

@LovelyBranches oh return those!
We have the older boy dragon trousers. You can return things to Boden within a year. Contact them!

A stripy top is a stripy top at the end of the day.

Yy to use a discount code. It annoys me as if they priced more reasonably id buy when i saw what i wanted but if i wait for an offer i just forget to buy it and get something else from another shop.

I have quite a bit of summer stuff from Boden from a few years back which has lasted. I do wonder why they do such godawful prints. Some nice cut / quality clothes in terrible prints.

You can get plain stuff but even then unless you want mish mash of colours its not fab.

TantricTwist · 28/05/2018 11:27

I really like the quality of the material and the cuts seem to really suit my figure and they are pretty much true to size.

Ofcourse some things wont fit because we are all different shapes and sizes so some items fit me perfectly whereas another style will fit someone else perfectly and not me. I think thats why I love that they keep popuar styles ie ones that fit me and change the patterns every year.
I really like a lot of their stuff this year esp their occaision wear even though some of it is out of my budget

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 28/05/2018 11:37

I agree that some of the prints, particularly latterly, are dreadful, but some are lovely, and I've got some great tops and dresses from there that have washed and worn really well. I find the quality of the (more recent) children's clothes more variable. I am beginning to find them increasingly hit and miss in general, but they'Re still one of the first places I look.

MadisonMontgomery · 28/05/2018 15:39

Does anyone else wish that they would scrap the constant discount codes etc and just stick to the lower price? I never know whether to buy or hold out for a better discount!

cansu · 28/05/2018 17:26

It fits well. The clothes are really good quality. I always get at least 20 % off and the stuff lasts. I have lots of day dresses from there that always receive lots of compliments and questions about where they are from. The stuff lasts. Agree the customer service is great. It is expensive but once the 20% code is applied it is no different to many of the brands loved on here.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 28/05/2018 17:36

I have never bought boden,it’s too ubiquitous were I am
The prints are v recognisable, and a bit too woo isn’t this quirky

HRTpatch · 28/05/2018 17:42

I'd say £90 is reasonable for sandals.
I regularly pay that or a lot more as I can't get shoes on the high street
