What can I wear for an Investiture?

Hello! I am looking for a smart outfit to attend an investiture. I am lost!

I am 5'3, size 14 most of the time, but can be 16 bottom.

I almost never wear dresses or skirts, but I wonder if for this occasion a trouser suit would not be appropriate. I have an apple shape, so it's difficult to find flattering dresses.

Any ideas would be gratefully received : )

Thanks!

Would a true wrap dress work? I'm the same shape and have lots of this style as they help to give some definition?

I attended an investiture a few years ago, and wore a knee length blue dress, black jacket, hat and black heels. My mother in law wore a smart trouser suit with matching hat and looked lovely - from memory there were plenty of other women wearing suits too, so I think that would be absolutely fine. To be honest there was a huge range of outfits so I think choosing something you're comfortable in is your best bet. There should be some guidance in the invitation pack you receive about what's required (e.g. Hats, shoulders covered etc). Good luck - it's a really special day so I hope you have a great time.

Thank you very much!!

Yes, the instructions said dress knee length or longer, smart trouser suit and preferably hat or fascinator.

I have never worn a hat, so I am very excited about that!

Thank you for the suggestions. I have to buy something, so will try several things to find something that makes me feel comfortable. I am just not stylish at all, seem to lack that gene : )

I went shopping and didn't find anything that suit me. Do you have any suggestions of shops or brands that I should try?

Many thanks!!
