Wedding Dress Advice Please!

Hi I get married in just over two weeks, and I go for my first fitting this week.

When I tried dress on, it was in a different colour so have not seen my wedding dress in ivory. Brave or silly, I am assuming the latter!

So I have enclosed two screenshots, I am self conscious of my arms, and the boutique have told me there is not enough time for arms to be added in, so would need to find a jacket.

So would this jacket go with my dress? I don't have a large budget either. Anyways I am rambling on.

Thanks in Advance

Yay to feeling more positive, and saying f*ck it wearing whatever shape wear you want. You will look gorgeous on the day.

You might still want to think of treating yourself to some flowers for the pictures. You won't have to carry them around with you all day, but I sat with a close friend recently as she sobbed over her perfectly-fine-to-us photos, and swore to never look at them again, because she was v self conscious about her shape! It took the edge of things a bit!

Bodear · 23/05/2018 22:11

I had similar misgivings in my dress and got some Spanx. Took me 15 mins to get in the damn things but they made a much bigger difference than the cheaper alternative. They were truly hideous and went from knee to bra line! I wore them until dinner and then went for a wee and couldn’t be bothered to hoik them back up so just got rid and went commando Grin.
They weren’t cheap but did make me feel confident walking down the aisle.

Enjoy your wedding day, you're going to be beautiful and feel beautiful Daisy The dress looks lovely on you.

wendywoopywoo222 · 23/05/2018 22:19

Your dress is lovley and you look beautiful in it. Arms look fine. Enjoy your day xx

ilovewine · 23/05/2018 23:13

You look absolutely gorgeous in your dress OP and have nothing to worry about, arms look fab and no tummy lumps or bumps just a beautiful figure in a beautiful dress. I would second having flowers though, I had tiny wedding and loved my bouquet. I didn't have a wedding car I just put ribbons on my car, a white sheet on the parcel shelf and my bouquet on it to make it look weddingy and I felt like a princess. And if you feel self conscious on the day you can hold it in front of you. I hope you have an amazing day, love every moment of it Thanks

ToftheB · 24/05/2018 08:06

The dress looks absolutely beautiful on you. Stylish and classic.

I know it’s not possible to just ‘get over’ worries you have about your body - I think the vast majority of us have ‘hang ups’ and we’re critical of ourselves in a way we would never dream about criticising other people.
Honestly though, your arms look great and I can’t see any hint of a hernia. Your guests will be looking at you as a whole person, not at the tiny bits you’re worried about, and you look great!

Good Morning All

Thanks again for the kind words, suggestions and compliments, the fact you have all been so lovely to a stranger has made me feel much better than I did yesterday.

I am going to try some new shapewear and if that doesn't work I am just going to think sod it, he loves me for me.

AS for flowers I'm making enquires for a small bouquet as we speak. I will leave this thread on, and post a photo on the day, dress, make up and hair.

Thank you again you lovely lot Flowers

Oh my gosh that neckline and sleeves (or lack of) is so flattering on you, I'd definitely not panic about trying to find a cover up, you look fab. What a gorgeous classic dress.

Only you can decide how comfortable you feel in yourself. If you feel you would be self conscious and want stronger compression shapewear then by all means. Whatever will help you to be relaxed on the day (though I will say I think my wedding day was the least stressed I've ever been in my life because I was just so happy to be there!)

I'd second PP regarding flowers, even a small bouquet as it really made me feel like a bride carrying them, even just for pictures. They don't have to be expensive and you can always have a vase at the reception and put them in as a table arrangement. It's just a nice to have!

katmarie · 24/05/2018 08:30

That dress looks lovely, it's quite similar to what I went for and I'm a size 14-16 with a three month old baby too, so plenty of mum tum. I was going to wear shapewear underneath but my dress maker told me not to bother, that it would be much more comfortable without and she was so right, plus she added a hoop skirt underneath for me to give me the right proportions. To be honest, on the day I just felt so amazing and happy, and everyone I spoke to was so complimentary, that I didn't get a chance to worry about how I looked. I'm sure your wedding day will be very similar, once you have hair and makeup on, and your dress, shoes, jewelry etc, you'll feel amazing :)

BedtimeTea · 24/05/2018 12:38

I think if you add an open bust shapewear full slip, it would smooth the tummy so you won't feel self conscious.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 24/05/2018 13:05

As there is no lace anywhere else on the dress I wouldn't go for that style of bolero but if you really felt the need for something to cover your arms would something like any of these be suitable:

Those links I don't think will work properly - here's take 2!

I've read the whole thread and I think you look absolutely smashing but if you need that extra comfort to be completely relaxed on your wedding day, I hope that we've been able to help by our words of encouragement!

Have a fantastic wedding day!

GiantPandaAttacks · 24/05/2018 15:38

You look lovely, don't worry at all!

NotMeNoNo · 24/05/2018 15:43

I haven't checked all the links already posted but how about this? Mostly plain with an unusual shape.

bolero

Bettyfood · 24/05/2018 15:53

Ooh, I like that last one, but you don't need a cover-up. you look lovely!

BusterTheBulldog · 24/05/2018 15:58

I would go for a slip rather than shapewear, and defo don’t bother with the jacket! You really don’t need it op Smile

Frazzled2207 · 24/05/2018 16:56

You look lovely
Yes look for a slip which might help even things out a bit but I honestly don't think you need it

Thebluedog · 24/05/2018 18:18

I don’t see the hernia either Flowers have you thought about a frilly shawl or something you could drape over your arms and if you do feel self concious then the ends could skim where you think the hernia is?

ProjectGainsborough · 25/05/2018 20:32

It’s a lovely dress and you look gorgeous in it - I really think your arms look great and wouldn’t bother with a thing to cover them.

From experience, I agree with PP that a bouquet is most useful if you feel self conscious. It’s a thing to do with your hands and focus on (think of it like Dennis Norden’s clipboard!)

You sound like a lovely person and I am sure you’ll have an amazing day!

DaisyRose1985 · 09/06/2018 08:53

I just wanted to thank you all for your kind words, I had a small bouquet, but my bridesmaid, daughter loved them that much she carried them.

The day was everything I hoped for and more. Thank you for all the wonderful advice.

From a woman who lives in black leggings and baggy tops, I truly felt beautiful. Here I am on my wedding day/33rd birthday. I think I scrubbed up okay ☺️
