I have a 'do' to go to on Saturday - First Communion. Now whilst it's a fairly formal church occasion it's not quite as big a deal as a Christening and certainly not a wedding.

I have looked high and low and can't find much on the high street to suit. It's too late to order online.

I have a white blouse with a slight ruffle at the neck (from Mothercare but not on their site any more), a pair of wide legged black trousers and black sandals. Will I look like the poor pregnant girl who has nothing to wear?

Black and white looks smart, imo. You'll look fine!

Tommy · 17/05/2007 16:47

you'll look lovely - anyway, everyone will be looking at the mini brides in their first communion dresses and won't notice if you turn up in a bin liner....

Ceolas · 17/05/2007 16:48

I appreciate that Tommy. Just don't want to look like the waitress!

good point
Could you just nip into DP's, TopShop or H&M and get a coloured top to go with your trousers?

Remember it well although I'm in a worse situation now - post baby with nothing that fits!!

MrsBadger · 17/05/2007 17:33

sounds fine to me - if there's any way you could lay your hands on a b&w patterned scarf or bag, or b&w beads to bring it all together it'd lift it from slightly-average to minimalist-chic

good bag
cool scarf
cool necklcae

you get the idea

Ceolas · 17/05/2007 17:35

Ooh I like that bag

So a trip to Accessorize for a bag and chunky necklace then?

tbh just the bag would do if you have nice necklace (not necc b&w) already
but don't let me stop you

Ceolas · 17/05/2007 17:44

I was thinking maybe black beads and a b&w bag. I have silver jewellery and a teardrop diamond necklace in white gold if you think beads would be overkill.

ooh, yes, black beads could be very nice

I've been to a Holy Communion at 37 weeks (fortnight ago) and will be at one on Saturday (39 weeks) My outfit is a black and white linen long dress from Peacocks (£16 - bargain!) with a cerise pink 3/4 length sleeve Monsoon cardi over the top of it with just one button done up. The other week I wore it with black shoes and bag, but the shoes had a heel and I was completely exhausted after wearing them, so it may be pink Birkenstock-esque sandals (unless it rains) on Saturday. A little bit of colour with black and white can look really smart. Have a lovely time

Ceolas · 17/05/2007 17:54

Well am only 26 weeks, but shan't be doing much of a heel!

I'm very impressed that you're making such an effort!
