High waisted jeans (help me hide my mum tum!)

Hi all, I could really do with some advice.

After two c sections in the last four years I have a really attractive overhanging pouch instead of a tummy. Before my second DC I found I could hide this with looser, flowing tops but still got away with my low waist skinny jeans. That's now not an option and because of diastasis recti (and cake related fat) I look pregnant again as soon as I've had my lunch!

I've been thinking of a wardrobe overhaul and would love some tips about where to get really flattering high waisted jeans, but also any tops or dresses that are flattering for a larger tummy.

I have an hourglass shape with big boobs and I'm 5'7" so find lots of dresses too short. I'm easily a size 14 due to the tummy.

Please help, I'm completely clueless and keep wearing DH's oversized jumpers Blush

matalan for high waisted jeans! i love mine from there. they have some really nice stuff in Smile

TheLuckDragon · 14/05/2018 23:02

Levi do amazing high waisted ones! Up to the ribs practically and lets me tuck my tummy right in

abc12345 · 15/05/2018 08:08

Top shop Joni. They are nice and high and they keep their shape

PrimalLass · 15/05/2018 08:10

Are you doing something to help with the diastasis? Might be better to spend the money on that. I speak from experience as 10 years down the line my chiropractor bill is now huge.

MynameisJune · 15/05/2018 08:12

ASOS Ridley are properly high waist, I find a lot of jeans say high waist but actually end up below my belly button (I’m 5’8). Not too expensive and relatively good quality.

Boredboredboredboredbored · 15/05/2018 08:12

As a curvy size 12 the only skinny jeans that fit me remotely well are Topshop Jamie. I have around 5 pairs in different colours and lengths and they fit so well.

DextroDependant · 15/05/2018 08:13

I got some from dorothy Perkins a couple of years ago that had a zip up the back. Most flattrring jeans I have ever owned.

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 15/05/2018 08:15

Simply have a nice range of high waisted jeans. Normal and control ones.

whifflesqueak · 15/05/2018 08:17

I love love love my Cheap Monday Donna jeans. Good quality denim and super flattering.

robindeer · 15/05/2018 09:31

So many brilliant suggestions, thank you all so much! I used to wear topshop jeans exclusively as they were the only ones with a long enough leg but then felt too old to be shopping there after one bewildering sales day surrounded by 13yr olds. I'll give myself a slap and try again. There's a Matalan pretty close to me too so will definitely call in.

Could you advise on the sizing for ASOS and Cheap Monday? Never heard of the latter (I'm embarrassingly behind the times) but have always had to send back any ASOS orders.

@PrimalLass you might be onto something there- I already have a lot of lower back pain and I keep pulling something in my shoulder as well then having a couple of days of pain there. I'm sure a lot of it is down to my poor core strength. I used to do loads of Pilates and yoga as well. These days my motivation seems to go into finding chocolate in the house to go with my cuppa (which also has sugar in). Oh, and I suspended my gym membership too...

I'm a disaster, aren't I?

I like Topshop Jamie jeans for this reason. I'm far too old to shop there but just order online now I know what size fits!

threefeet · 15/05/2018 09:44

Topshop, definitely. You're not too old to shop there! I like Joni jeans as they're not as heavy as Jamie's. The Jamie style are far too warm for this time of year.

ElspethFlashman · 15/05/2018 09:47

Cheap Monday is also on ASOS BTW.

I never had any luck with Top Shop high waisters - they just slid down as I walked. Too much stretch I reckon.

Kenworthington · 15/05/2018 09:50

I think you have to size down in topshop Joni’s. I’m a 16 but wear a 14 in them. Their brilliant. The Jamie’s look more like regular jeans

whatisthisimleaking · 15/05/2018 09:52

I love my Top Shop Jamie jeans. I have them in three different styles I love them that much. Highwaisted. Slim leg. Flattering.

spiderlight · 15/05/2018 12:44

I sweat by Next jeans - never find anything else in there that I'd wear but their jeans are usually great.

Fuggit · 15/05/2018 16:22

Another vote for the Topshop Jamie's here. I recently rediscovered Topshop jeans after a ten plus year hiatus, thinking I was too old to shop there. The Jamie's are fab and really hold in my 'Mum tum'. No love handles in sight either due to the high waist. All good. Smile

chloechloe · 15/05/2018 19:12

Yes yes yes to Topshop Jamies! They really hold you in and are fairly heavy weight so very flattering. The Jonis are even higher waisted but much thinner with more stretch. They're more like jeggings than jeans.

I always order online. The sizing is variable though so you might want to order a couple of sizes as they often vary between different washes. I have some 28s and some 29s for example.

Mueslibox · 15/05/2018 22:21

Check out MUTU mama for your diastasis. Mine is much better. And pilates. And bizarrely, Tesco highwaisted skinnjes.

Kocerhan3 · 16/05/2018 18:30

Honestly I swear by Tesco's super skinny high waisted ones. They're a stretchy fabric so they're ultra comfortable and come up lovely and high, make your behind look great too!!

robindeer · 20/05/2018 20:18

@whifflesqueak you get a mention in today's Swears By email!

By way of an update (because obviously you are all super invested in how I disguise my paunch) I've bought two pairs of the Tesco high waisted skinnies but I'm not 100% satisfied so will work my way through the other suggestions. My issue with the Tesco ones are that the 12s are too tight, the 14s too loose and the waist is just not quite high enough on me so I keep having to pull them up.

Although I will add @Kocerhan3 that my arse does indeed look great in them!
