Chanel Perfume for an 18 year old?

NigellasGuest · 13/05/2018 08:34

DD would like a Chanel perfume for her 18th - which ones are quite "young"? I have Gardenia and Beige but I don't want to get her one of Les Exclusifs, and I don't know much about the other ones, apart from Coco and No 5 which are definitely too old smelling for her. Would Cristalle be a good idea?

Cristalle is lovely - I wore it from teens through early 20's... much less heavy than some Chanel fragrances

Monkeymonstermum · 13/05/2018 11:42

Which of yours is she pinching?

NigellasGuest · 13/05/2018 12:05

Gardenia

Well that would be a treat 😀
I think mademoiselle is the safe bet - with some body products (I always like to have the body lotion, love the shower gel but that seems even more of a luxury as so much goes down the plug hole)!
Happy shopping

I've always worn no 5! Lived it since I was a little girl.

Orlandointhewilderness · 13/05/2018 12:17

Loved it!

DameDoom · 13/05/2018 12:19

Cristalle is perfect. I've worn it since my mum bought it for me in my teens. Summer in a bottle.

Monkeymonstermum · 13/05/2018 12:26

I love no 5 too! Fav will always be coco though...ah lovely! Favourite thread of the day, thanks for making me happy 😃

MinaPaws · 13/05/2018 12:28

I love Cristalle too. Reminds me of my twenties (but they were a long time ago.)

Don't know Chance, but I used to wear No 5 in my late teens and Coco. Loved them both.

DD off to department store on Wednesday- I will tell her to try

Mademoiselle
Chance
Allure
Cristalle

Is Mademoiselle short for Coco Mademoiselle?

I've worn Allure for 20 years, and haven't found anything to replace it. I agree with some of the PPs about getting her to try them herself - my friend has an enviable collection of Chanel (husband works abroad a lot)and there are so many of them smell lovely on her, but when I try them, they smell awful.

Bugjune · 13/05/2018 13:14

Coco Mademoiselle or the new Intense version for extra brownie points.

eloisesparkle · 13/05/2018 13:15

I agree with Tomorrow.
Try them on your wrist. Walk around for a bit. Get those little paper testers. Spray them. WAIT -really important so the scent settles. Then sniff.
So many perfumes smell lovely on other people but on me not so good.
I do like Chanel Jersey but is one of the Exclusifs and out of my budget. Sad
I hate all the Coco ones- too strong.
One of my dds loves it though.

VerbenaBorensis · 13/05/2018 13:41

Spraying on the blotters first for an initial marmite decision is ok but u need it on yr wrist to see how the middle notes mix with yr skins individual chemistry. Mademoiselle-yes peops have shortened it from coco mademoiselle.Happy shopping! Another suggestion-you could bought one so still a surprise but then taken her to try before opening the packaging so she could exchange? Some stores have paper chanel gift bags (free) so ask if they have any. Happy shopping!

VerbenaBorensis · 13/05/2018 13:42

Yeh. ...er... Happy shopping twice! Oh now its three times! Grin

higgyyellow · 13/05/2018 13:53

I would buy her a voucher. Far too expensive a perfume to get it wrong

Branleuse · 13/05/2018 13:54

Chance

BrightonCalling · 13/05/2018 15:14

19 poudré

Haffiana · 13/05/2018 15:26

Get her to also try Gabrielle by Chanel, and even No5 Eau Premiere, both of which have more in common with Gardenia than Allure or Chance.

However, if she actually likes Gardenia and you don't want to get her that, then she needs to go and smell Guerlain's Jardin des Bagatelles, or Estee Lauder's Tuberose Gardenia. Or any one of the many other excellent white florals that are around!

NigellasGuest · 13/05/2018 17:47

Oh thank you so much, there's a wealth of information on this thread now!

Chance has always been my favourite since my teenage years

wowsaidtheowl · 13/05/2018 19:18

Cristalle was my first perfume when I was 16. I still love it.

greatbiggiraffe · 13/05/2018 20:59

Cristalle Eau Verte is beautiful and smells very fresh

NigellasGuest · 13/05/2018 21:41

What's 19 poudre? A powdered version?

NigellasGuest · 13/05/2018 21:41
