If you're short and hide your legs in the Summer come this way...

Increasingly bad eczema on my legs means I need to hide my legs this Summer :(
I'm 5ft so have never bought long skirts/dresses/jumpsuits or wide leg trousers as assumed they'd look ridiculous. I've tried a couple on and they don't look or fit great.

Can anyone with more experience of being short and wearing longer lengths advise?
I'm a size 6-8 and frankly its not easy finding stuff to fit at my height. Tend to do better with sizing at Mango, New Look, H&M, Warehouse etc than Whistles, Reiss, Hobbs, Next, M&S etc.

A jumpsuit would ideal...

I'm 5'1" and just bought a cropped leg jumpsuit in tu, it is so comfy and makes me feel good!
Not expensive either!!

These trousers are terrific. I'm five feet nothing and wore them all last summer. So pleased they're back!

www.cosstores.com/en_gbp/women/trousers/product.lightweight-jeans-blue.0632791001.html

I wore them rolled up and the ankle and they looked great.

Similarly, I think you'd do well with nice, bright chinos, also rolled at the ankle. Gap always have them, and I think go down to quite small sizes, and I saw some in M and S recently.

Last summer, I also got a long, quite clingy jersey dress from Uniqlo, and I certainly didn't think I looked drowning it. it probably would have been three quarter length on normal people!

Rainatnight · 10/05/2018 13:52

That was supposed to be rolled up AROUND the ankle

WinnersClub · 10/05/2018 14:02

Being short doesn't require hiding your legs. I get the eczema part. I'm on an inch taller that you OP and i wear all the things you listed from the exact same shops as you. The world's your oyster, get out there and start shopping.

Starfish83 · 10/05/2018 14:07

Rainatnight, love those Cos trousers! What's the sizing like please? Smile x

lexiewrites · 10/05/2018 14:09

I'm five foot and always think I love good in a maxi dress, boohoo do a great petite range, some of the stuff is awful but they have some good basics,

Next have some great plain and printed basic trousers in the petite at the minute they're a relaxed fit and don't seem to come up as big as some of their things do.

lexiewrites · 10/05/2018 14:10

Look good not love Hmm

I’ve just bought the most gorgeous dress from Tesco today, seriously surprised with how much nice stuff was in there. I’ll try and find a picture of it. I’m 5’2 and it comes about mid calf on me so I think it’d be a perfect length on you. I bought it in blue but they had yellow too,I think I’ll go back for it!

retainertrainer · 10/05/2018 14:24

I couldn’t find a link sorry so I’ve taken a picture instead

Thanks all.

Have just scoured Dorothy Perkins, New Look and Top Shop petite - found several jumpsuits that looked nice and cool for Summer, not a hideous print (I don't do loud prints), not black (looks terrible on me) and not long or mid sleeved (if its too hot to wear jeans I think I'll need short sleeves!).
Sadly though none of them are in stock in my size :(

I have a couple of mid calf length dresses which are a great fit but the eczema is currently so bad around just above my ankles that I don't feel I can wear them.

Have a few pairs of lightweight jeans already but really looking for something for when its very warm and I'd normally wear knee length dresses or shorts...

Tried on a maxi dress and jumpsuit in Mango and wide leg trousers in Warehouse - they really didn't look great and the fit was all wrong - crotch down to me knees and too much neckline showing.

The search continues. Am not averse to getting lengths taken up if need be, it won't be first time I've done that!

Not what you're looking for, but I had terrible eczema on my legs (kind of in the middle of my calf as well as behind my knees) and it cleared up as soon as I stopped shaving.

I now use an epilator and no longer wake up in the middle of the night ripping my legs to shreds.

retainertrainer · 10/05/2018 14:53

Have you looked in Next? They’ve got lovely hareem style trousers, cool and comfy in lots of different patterns. Look fab with a t shirt tucked in.

retainertrainer · 10/05/2018 14:55

Here we go,I’ve got these, they’re lovely.

dameofdilemma · 10/05/2018 15:19

I did try on some harem trousers in H&M...I looked like MC Hammer. And not in a good way.

There's a big difference I think between what I could wear in 20s and what I'll wear in my 40s.

Hey - sadly its lifelong eczema (and I'm a life long epilator user).

retainertrainer · 10/05/2018 15:37

These haven’t got a low crotch (they’re not actually hareem trousers they’re described as joggers) give them a try.

dameofdilemma · 10/05/2018 15:49

You've convinced me...will do.

OP posts:
TheFairyCaravan · 10/05/2018 16:02

I’m wearing those Next joggers now. They’re so comfy and I don’t look like MC Hammer.

I’m a 6-8 but 5’4 and get a lot of my clothes, especially Summer ones, from Gap online. They have a petite range online that they don’t have in the shops and there’s always discount codes knocking about.

retainertrainer · 10/05/2018 16:04

Wear them with havaianas, bright varnish on your toes, some bangles, crisp white t shirt tucked in and you’re good to go. It’ll show off your lovely figure too.

babyblackbird · 10/05/2018 17:56

I bought a jumpsuit from Whistles last year which was supposed to be quite cropped on average height Ladies but on me was perfect full length ( I'm 5 foot 1.5 inches - that half inch is very important !) , the waist still sat in the right place and I felt amazing in it. Mint velvet trousers online are good too as they come in short regular and long lengths - size 6 only available online but fit beautifully.

Namethecat · 10/05/2018 17:59

Short (less than 5ft) and fat - so no hope for me...... but have you tried Aveeno Cream for your eczema. I find it really helps.

Titsywoo · 10/05/2018 18:14

Matalan do a version of the Next joggers but much cheaper. I have several in black but they have patterns too. www.matalan.co.uk/product/detail/s2656397_c101/harem-trousers-black
