Summer dress for late teen DD but must have long sleeves

Please help. I am a complete failure at nice clothes, but DD needs a fabulous dress for a school party, and everything she has is either too heavy for summer, or doesn't cover her arms. Due to some recent scarring, which she absolutely cannot have on show, she needs long sleeves - down to the wrist.

She is 18, a size 8/10, 5'6" only really wears grey/black/blue. Nothing too fussy. She has very, very broad shoulders though. Pale skin, dark hair.

Budget could be up to £200 for the right dress, but she prefers not to spend too much.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. I don't know where to even start. She got a beautiful dress from Coast last summer for a wedding, but it has no sleeves. Adding a very fine cardi would work for me, but I am ancient!

I saw someone at goodwood similar dress size and colouring to your DD-she was in a stunning long sleeved chiffon dress that I assume was vintage. Maybe 1930s/40s? I haven’t seen anything like it on the high street so if there are any good vintage shops near you that might be best bet.

Maybe worth taking a look in Asos?

Second ASOS. If I search for long sleeved dress, filter by her size, the main collection (so no maternity/petite) and her approved colours I get 368 results! Hopefully one will be to her liking. Lots of black lace sleeve options.

Do the sleeves have to be solid, or would a mesh or lace sleeve work?

I have awful scars, and Ive had consultations through ‘changing faces’. They were amazing and gave me some fab tips and different make up on prescription for covering the scars up. The thicker keloid scars still show, but the flatter ones are completely hidden. I could easily wear mesh sleeves with the make up on and there would be no way to tell I had scars at all.

Try Issa or Diane von Furstenberg. Very elegant dressy maxis and jumpsuits with long sleeves.

(Although it looks like that last one finishes an inch or 2 above the wrist so might not be suitable).

Good luck to your daughter in finding a nice dress. If she gets desperate, she could always get a nice lightweight bolero/cardigan to go over a sleeveless dress. I did this for my leavers' do at school when I couldn't find any nice long sleeved dresses.

Try looking at Monsoon. I am tempted by a grey long sleeve maxi embellished on there.

Asos. Free delivery and returns is wonderful.

I have a dress similar to this first one, but it is straight up straight down and is very flattering.
The second one is cute too, but sleeves may not be long enough.

The John Lewis purple one is lovely

Worth checking out the John Lewis website - they have a good search engine where you can specify occasion, colour and sleeve length and then you can browse really quickly. Of the 138 dresses they have fitting your spec most of them won’t work, but she only needs one.

I screenshotted this from Asos the other day - is it any good? It came in grey or mink. I can find the link if it’s suitable.
