Crikey, that first dress is totally, totally shocking - the sort of thing once you have seen you cannot unsee!

What have you seen that is nice this year? No, I am not being facetious, just that I have not visited in a while.

I am usually a big M&S fan. Dare I admit I used to be on their consumer panel and gave feedback on new ranges? They seem to have stopped that now (or maybe they have screened me out!) and just seem to send out irritating on -line questionnaires. Mmmm...could be part of their current problems.

The last one is a dress I had when I was 3, my mum sewed it for me herself.

The peachy one is reminiscent of the dressing-up box.

The yellow one is nearly ok! But then isn't.

The first one is beyond hideous.

Sorry I don't click on links, I popped in a month ago (Oxford St) And was open mouthed at all the baggy nappy trousers they had fgs!!!! How many of their customers would buy them ? i guarantee they'll have the majority of them left on the hangers.

I looked for their size 10 plain COTTON T shirts, there were no 10s left so I bought 12s which fitted fine. They are ok. They re STILL not aiming at their ideal customer who like their basics , not outlandish prints and baggy crotch trousers!!!!

I don't know who is designing for Marks and Spencer and I don't know who they're designing for, but the sleeves are weird - either too short or too long, the waists are too high or too low, the lengths are either too short or too long, the styles are oddly infantile and the patterns look like they were put together by the colourblind.

I tried the dress on in the op. It wasn’t as bad as I’d thought. 🙄

We've had threads like this one for years and they still haven't taken our ideas on board , it's not surprising they're still losing money. They have no real direction.

It seemed as if they've changed the vanity sizes to a bit smaller, anyone else agree or have I put on weight? Although interestingly I asked for their casual trouser section and I was pointed in the direction of the droopy nappy trousers! oh dear!

I have bought this. I look hideous. Although I think it probably has more to do with my boobs.

Why do m and s keep churning out dresses designed to make the wearer look like an extra in Abigail's Party? They seem obsessed with taking the worst kind of 70s maxi dresses and recreating them, I honestly can't work out their business plan.

Your mistake with that dress and boobs are the sleeves. End at boob height which makes the appearance of a line across you.

Bluths I don't keep up with the latest Paris or Brit fashions but I reckon that there are young buyers working for M&S who DO and think that's what their customers want fgs.

They haven't noticed that the people who ARE very fashion conscious fashion victims. Don't shop in M&S they shop in the shit shops like Primark who employ children in China, Indonesia etc. churning out the very latest fashions ALL the time.

I was pleased to see that the cotton T shirts I bought were made with 'carefully sourced' cotton ,or something like that, (it wasn't clear what they meant but it pleased me )

I was also pleased that they were making Tshirts from recycled polyester or something, I wouldn't wear them, but a good idea.

I quite like op’s yellow dress. The peach one would look good on a youngster at a festival - I can see what they’re aiming at (not sure it’s a good idea, mind you).

I went into a largish local branch last week. I wanted a plain black nightie, perhaps with a little bit of lace, knee length. I am 53 and wanted a nightie because I get too hot in pyjamas, knee length because I am 53, and plain black because I am a grownup and wanted something classic and adult without being either very sexy or cutesy. There.were.no.black.nighties.at.all. In fact, there were no plain nighties at all except old lady textured thick cotton ones in white. Almost everything was pyjamas, had weird or cute logos or prints on, or sprigs of flowers. I had a quick look at the day clothes and saw nothing I'd have been willing to wear. I should be their ideal customer - middle aged, middle class, like clothes up to a point but not high fashion, would have spent a couple of hundred if I'd seen several things I liked. As it was, I bought some plain black pants for £7 and nothing else. I would rather have paid twice as much for the pants and know they hadn't been produced in a sweatshop in Bangladesh, but that wasn't an option.
Really, they deserve to go bust. Their clothing strategies have been so bad for so long that it's completely incomprehensible.

Japanese I know exactly what you mean but perhaps you were there in the wrong season , maybe they only do black for winter or something. I know that when I was there in early April it was towards the end of their summer season because there were rails of unwearable swimsuits!

Talking about swimsuits when will they make an all in one with a proper bra fastening ? It can't be beyond them, they make bras for gods sake. I saw one in a classy little underwear shop in dms village but it was £160 and I didn't want to spend that much at the time!

I considered the white linen trousers but they looked totally see through.

Apparently white trousers which have a lining are a step too far for M&S.

Oh god Strange You reminded about being in an informal restaurant a month ago in the West End and one of the customers walked in, in a very 'look at me' way; she wearing what looked like completely see through white linen trousers (from the back ) She was tall and plasticised in high heeled boots , thick fake hair pieces, she proceeded to film her food. I was trying to work out what she was and I gave up!

Instagrammer maybe ppeatfruit? Snapchatter? Maybe a YouTuber? Vloggers usually film sitting down so it doesn't matter if they aren't wearing trousers are see-through at the back.

I used to love the M&S skinny jeans. Nice and thick, front and back pockets...the new jeggings are ok but the stitching on the pockets (only back pockets) is rubbish, to the point that I nearly lost my keys in the supermarket car park the other day. A lady had to stop me with 'did you know your keys are hanging out the bottom of your pocket?'

No. No I did not.

The M&S Leeds is a big store, but not so big that they had enough hanger options for every style of jeans and casual trousers.

Skinny mid rise, skinny mid rise cropped, skinny mid rise short, super skinny mid rise, super skinny mid rise cropped, jeggings, high rise mom, kick flare, bootcut, Per Una, Classic, M&S Collection all with short, regular, long options with some super short as well.

It didn't help that there were casual, jeans and some trousers downstairs, but when I asked about a particular type of jeans, the staff referred me to women's trousers UPSTAIRS.
