Does this outfit sound/look ok for the occasion?

I have a tendency towards being a bit OTT and really want to look cool and comfortable and like I haven't tried too hard for this event.

It's my new DP's family member's party in June at a restaurant in N.London (have googled and apparently it's quite naice but casual).

Dress like this with these shoes (already own and they're super comfy) and probably a biker over the top if needed.

Size 12. 5'4 (dress much longer on me than model). Apple shape so skater dresses are my friend. Have decent legs and will gradual tan between now and then.

Sound ok?

Yup..It's lovely. May be a bit warm for June with the long sleeves?

JesusTapdancingChrist · 02/05/2018 13:42

It's not the exact dress, the one I have has mesh sleeves so is quite a bit lighter feeling/looking.

Will forego the jacket if it's warm.

It’s a really lovely outfit (actually considering buying the dress) but for better suited to somewhere fancier in the evening. It’s way too much for a casual restaurant during the day where you’ll probably find most of the other customers are dressed down in jeans, trainers etc.

Also if it’s a hot day the long sleeves will be uncomfortable and if it’s cold (you never know with the UK) adding a biker jacket would still mean freezing legs as you’ve got no option to wear tights with the shoes.

JesusTapdancingChrist · 02/05/2018 13:55

It's not a daytime event. It's a dinner thing with drinks at host's house afterwards.

Am fine with not wearing tights in summer.

In that case I think you’d be fine! Enjoy!

The dress is lovely but the sandals are horrific especially if you're five foot four and a 12. The strap will shorten your legs. Plus long sleeves with bare legs might look odd, as would a jacket and bare legs.

I'd keep it more classic and dainty with ballerina pumps and a soft cashmere cardigan. And I'd wear tights unless my legs were very brown......and if they were that brown I'd wear short sleeves too.

It looks more like a trendy bar/night out outfit really

Paintbox · 02/05/2018 14:43

Absolutely nothing wrong with long sleeves and bare legs! It’s a great look.

TantricTwist · 02/05/2018 14:46

I like it and I don't think it's OTT at all, it's very respectable and unique so go for it.

JesusTapdancingChrist · 02/05/2018 14:47

That's fine Fenella as it is a night out. We're travelling down from Yorkshire and it's my first time meeting these family members so I want to look dressed up, just not ridiculously so. This outfit is quite low key by my usual standards!

Mini Thanks for the input but I won't be doing any of that. I'd feel like someone's nan in ballet flats and a cashmere cardigan. Really don't agree that the shoes are hideous but even if they are to some, I know I'll be able to walk around without discomfort which is a huge factor on a night out for me Smile.

That dress is gorgeous, so if it's similar then go for it and enjoy yourself. I like the shoes too, they're cute. Love going a bit OTT sometimes (not that this particular outfit is), why not enjoy yourself! :)

I think it's perfect for what you describe. I sometimes look for venues on instagram if I'm not sure what's 'normal' for there, try it if you're worried but I think you're spot on!
