Hair styling novice - how do you get ends to flick a bit...?

Not to a Miss Hoolie extent, just a bit of a flicky/curly thing to get some semblance of shape and style into my mop?

rough-dry hair til only just a tiny bit damp, styling spray, big barrel brush, leave hair on brush to cool for a few moments after heating with dryer

If you use straighteners you can do it with those, although I doubt I could explain how - I think it's one of those things that if you try it you'll find it really easy to do... I have straighteners that are shaped to flick the ends out - cheating a bit

Thanks...am generally a brush-and-go type of gal (see also: lazy) but am feeling the occassional need for some mild grooming !
