What can I wear with this dress to cover my upper arms? Mother of the Bride outfit.

Mother of the bride outfit...

I love this dress, and the hat that is in the 'Complete the look' section on the website. I don't like the shoes and clutch that they recommend, but will find something. I tried it on yesterday as part of a personal shopper appointment, and it looks amazing on me.
However - I don't like my upper arms, and I have a tattoo on my right upper arm that I don't want to show in photographs.

What can I wear over it? I tried a jacket (waist length, 3/4 length sleeves) that looked ok, but really hid just how good my waist looks - it gives me an hourglass figure that I don't want to hide. So I think I want something like a shrug? Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved - as would shoe recommendations (wide feet and bunions pretty much rule out sandals).

Gabor do some lovely sandals that are extremely comfortable - and very pretty.

They don't look like comfort shoes.

If you don't want a bolero, I'd just go for a beautiful pashmina.

Another option for your tattoo might be make-up? Lots of scar hiding make-up out there ( I have scars from a bad accident) but don't know if it would hide tattoos? I presume it would.

Lovely dress, you definitely need a jacket to wear with it imo but not sure exactly the style

LadyB49 · 29/04/2018 18:51

A lovely lightweight pashmina, maybe silk.
However you'd need to be sure it would not get in the way, dancing etc. I'd discretely secure it at the shoulders once it was positioned to your liking.

I'd go for a very neat, short bolero. I had same issue for a wedding and found a silver one on eBay (new though), for a few pounds.
Personally I can't be doing with things flapping around, so wouldn't have liked a pashmina. Also your dress is quite neat looking so a bolero would fit with that - and wouldn't hide your nice waist!

You could try a cropped jacket - there's one on Jacques Vert in fuchsia pink which would pick up the pink in your dress beautifully - this one and it would still show off your waist. If you don't like that one, there's this navy waterfall cape from Coast which is lighter and floaty. Otherwise, I'd say just keep looking for something cropped. But bear in mind, you'll still be taking if off by the time you're on the dance floor!

Love the navy waterfall cape - that's exactly the sort of thing I was thinking of. The pink jacket was one that I tried on, and it took over the dress a bit...

It's only really for the photos that I want to cover up - I'm quite happy with bare arms for dancing later on. I'll also swap the big hat for a fascinator at the same time.
Thank you for the suggestions, much appreciated.

I'll see if I can find a grey version of the waterfall cape, or silver, or pale pink could work :) or a similar bolero.

What about something like this, very useful for covering arms bit not too heavy.

Thank you Glass and Montal - those are just the sort of thing I was looking for.
I will have a look in Coast this week and see if that is in stock.

Now I just have the throwing bouquet to make and a speech to write....

Mine was like this but the sleeves were a bit longer - it was a really goof fit despite the price.
The Jacques Vert one is lovely.

A pashmina will be annoying. I'd get a thing cardi/bolero thing.

PrimalLass · 30/04/2018 09:48

Thin

Just to come back to this, I eventually found a really pretty short cardigan from Phase Eight... and some gorgeous dark grey shoes too. Sorry, the shoes aren't in the photo, and it's not a great one overall, but it gives the overall effect :)

You look lovely and the cardigan looks great.
Hope you had a good day!

MrsTrindle · 13/06/2018 01:05

I think a lovely sheer pale pink / lilac wrap, which could be tied loosely, but securely around your shoulders. I find that I’m always fiddling with pashminas and they never stay where I want them to !
Give me a call when you’ve bought the dress, I would be able to make something for you and secure it, but detachable so that you can take it off later if you want to.
Best wishes
