My favourite ever navy summer shirt has worn out and I can't find a replacement. Help?

Like this but in navy. I thought a plain navy shirt/blouse would be easy to find, but I can't find anything I like anywhere. Essential criteria are:

  • 100% cotton. Lightweight and summery. No stretchy lycra, sweaty polyester, or heavy stiff material like a lot of work shirts seem to be made of.
  • Short or cap sleeves. Nothing sleeveless or long-sleeved.
  • "Normal" medium length. Not thigh-covering or boxy and cropped.
  • Lightweight but not sacklike and shapeless. I need something that skims my figure, not swamps it.
  • Ordinary neckline, i.e. buttons up to the collar so that you can leave the top two or three undone. Not one with buttons ending at the navel leaving my breasts hanging out.
  • No fussy details like pussy bows (yuck), waist ties, prints, frilly bibs, or anything else.

So far I've drawn a complete blank both in the shops and on eBay. Has anyone seen anything?? Failing that, is there any point buying the checked one and dyeing it navy, or will it come out patchy because of the check pattern?

this is the nearest I could find it's 97% cotton

all others I could find were either poly cotton or silk. There's a £15 discount if you sign up for their newsletter

The Peter Hahn one is pretty close, but the longer sleeve length makes it look slightly frumpy to me and it also mentions "stretch satin" in the description so I suspect the elastane content may make it a bit stretchy and shiny. :( I bought a Samantha Oliver one from eBay in my quest to replace the Crew Clothing original, and that has the same problem despite being about 96% cotton. Thanks, though!

The Uniqlo one isn't made of cotton unfortunately, and it's also very shapeless so would swamp me (hourglass).

I am a fussy bugger. Blush It's so hard to replace the perfect item!

They don't have anything in navy, sadly.

any good?

TheHonGalahadThreepwood · 24/04/2018 15:30

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not hugely keen on the buttons on the Debenhams one, but I might order it and see what it's like on.

I quite like the H&M one, but the buttons stop so far down that I'd have cleavage everywhere (unfortunate side effect of being both short and curvy).

If anyone has any more suggestions I'd love to hear them - I've been trying to find the perfect replacement for a year now without success!

This is not 100% cotton but is breathable Lyocell and is designed to be cooling and light

If you can find what you want with longer sleeves, it would be easy to take them up or get a dressmaker to do it for a few quid.

Or even have your shirt remade if you can find the right fabric. Try Merchant & Mills or Liberty tana lawn?
