Summer trousers for the slightly fat of arse

I have decided it’s time to move on from my linen trousers of the last 20 years and get something else.
I’m thinking patterned trousery things. The question is do I go slim ankle or wide legged?
Which looks better on a bit of a pear shape? I’ve done the wide leg before in the late 90s so will it just look like I’ve kept them from then?

Dilemmas.

In theory I feel like wide legged should be better, but I much prefer the tapered ankle type trousers that are sort of a bit baggy round the crotch. I'm fat of arse too by the way.

Hmmm i think tapered will be better. I think wide leg may hang from your widest part and make you look bigger than you are.

Lots of school mums do these from Next in their various colours and patterns. Soft jersey tapered.

Wide legged trousers make my butt look massive. I prefer tapered or straight leg

I have those next trews but think they are really frumpy and unflattering.

I prefer the ones that gather at the ankle

I don't know your budget but hush harem or cropped harem trousers are lovely.

DragonsAndCakes · 19/04/2018 15:37

Thanks everybody! I’ve now gone down a Hush rabbit hole. More than I want d to spend really, but they do all look lovely. I think I’m liking the straightish ones.

I am 5 foot with a large bum. I can only wear wide leg trousers if I team them with quite high heels/wedges, otherwise my bum looks vast and I don't do high heels. Unfortunately wide leg trousers are definitely the fashionable thing to wear this summer, so I will have to be unfashionable again.

Ooooh yes, I tried on a pair of Hush, Monaco I think they are called, trousers the other day and they were lovely and I think I am going to go back and get them. They don't quite taper in at the bottom like the Next ones, they are more of a cuff at the ankle? I was actually more worrying about the fact that I am a lazy fucker and they are the sort of material that I'm not sure you could get away with not ironing!

MrsPeacockDidIt · 19/04/2018 17:02

Ellen - the Monaco trousers do indeed have to be ironed I’m afraid 😩
