Where to get non-wedding dress white lace dress?

I'm getting married this summer, and the wedding is extremely low key (registry office, just family).

I want to wear a classic white lace knee length (or just above knee) dress, which doesn't have to be an actual wedding dress, and the budget is probably no more than £300. I'm size 8 and tall; not much boob or bottom.

Style-wise, I was thinking a sort of Victorian look, i.e. high necklace (see photo), with a fitted body. I'm also open to other styles, but nothing too modern and definitely no strapless!

I've tried ASOS, Maje and Sandro, but haven't spotted anything I liked. Are there other good shops for this sort of thing?

Great news, the one i had was lovely, I just didn't feel I had the legs for it! Good luck, there's some lovely ones from little mistress on there.

BigFatBloomers · 20/04/2018 12:48

I like it. I think it could look very stylish. However, I’m not sure it quite looks like how you’re imagining it and I don’t know how easy it would be to make it more fitted. May be worth ordering so you can try it on.

BigFatBloomers · 20/04/2018 12:49

Seems to be v different from what you originally said you wanted though.

BigFatBloomers · 20/04/2018 12:54

How about something from Dig for Victory?
You can mix and match the elements of their designs.
This is gorgeous.

sundayblanket · 20/04/2018 13:07

@BigFatBloomers I think you might be right... it's probably a bit too loose-fitting and plain in real life. I want the Victorian neck but nothing has quite fit the bill so far!

Added complication: currently 39 weeks pregnant and wedding is in

Oh Sunday, it would be really great to find you the perfect dress!

I can see that’s really tricky. I remember trying my first wedding dresses when DS was about 5 mths.

I’ll keep looking for high necks when I have a mo.

BigFatBloomers · 20/04/2018 15:13

Ps, I had put on a ton of weight! Grin

@BigFatBloomers thank you so much, you know what - Ganni is absolutely gorgeous! I like the dress you found, though there was only one photo. I googled it and found this other photo - slightly too short perhaps...? Can I somehow make it a bit longer?

I had this dress for my wedding. It's from dig for victory.

Perhaps Self Portrait do one? They often have lovely lace dresses. I wore Tadashi Shoji, they do lots of affordable non traditional dresses.

ChickenBhuna · 20/04/2018 18:45

Also op , I got married when ds was 3 months old. I got the above dress made to measure a month before the ceremony , I paid a fabric deposit beforehand to secure my dress though

sundayblanket · 20/04/2018 18:48

@ChickenBhuna the dress is lovely! I've tried on dresses like that before though, and the shape looked funny on me Sad I think I'm a bit too straight up and down for it!

@sundayblanket

That shift dress style will be great for you then.

I hope you find something suitableSmile

BigFatBloomers · 20/04/2018 20:08

I was excited when I found that one. I saw it in black and thought it was worth seeing if it came in white.

It is short but i always reckon the models are about 12ft tall - although I know you said you’re tall. I think it would be hard to make longer as it’s not even got a hem you could let down.

This site says it comes up small and to order a size larger than usual.

Selfridges says the 8 is 36” long.
(You have to enjoy the way they’ve styled the black one with white ankle socks!)

sonjadog · 20/04/2018 20:26

I have had a number of Ganni dresses. They are about the length shown on the model.

sundayblanket · 20/04/2018 20:41

Haha I saw that re white socks - what on earth! What I might do is order it and see how obscenely thigh-skimming it is. If too short, I could maybe wear a midi white lace pencil skirt over it? I'm almost 5 10 so it might come to that... I also loved the nude top and skirt combo you found @BigFatBloomers but don't think they come in white Sad

@sonjadog where (which online shop?) do you normally get your Ganni dresses from? The one @BigFatBloomers found seems to be offering quite a discount

BigFatBloomers · 20/04/2018 20:55

I’ve found the lace top!

Looking for the skirt ...

Eenymeeny123 · 20/04/2018 20:59

Have you tried Debenhams, they have some pretty short dresses

BigFatBloomers · 20/04/2018 21:33

Can’t find the Ganni skirt but a cream pencil skirt would work.

Have you seen this Ted Baker dress?

privateporcupine · 20/04/2018 21:44

@BigFatBloomers ha amazing!! How did you even do that, I searched that website!! I'll order both the Ganni top and dress and see how I get on. Thank you so much, personal shopper! 💋
