do not do it

you are slim and it will make you look bigger

if you really must get one gathered under the bust thus

lissielou · 12/05/2007 16:08

found it on ebay only £19 in zara too!

geekgrrl · 12/05/2007 16:12

I really like the selection Wallis have at the moment - bought three tunics the other week

SpawnChorus · 12/05/2007 16:29

somewhat embarrassed to be admitting to this, but have you looked in...ahem... Peacocks?

It's tunic/smock nirvana in there. I was on a quest to find a tunic top that wouldn't make me look pregnant, and they have lots. Nice ones with a deep v-neck and a tie under the bust - good for flattering norkage and glossing over any dodgy tummy bulge. Great prints too - quite retro. Fabric feels v soft and light. Not sure how good the manufacturing quality is, as they are v cheap (all £14 or less) and I've only washed/worn them a couple of times so far.

They also have some lovely short-sleeve flimsy shirt-dresses with tie-waists. Kind of prim-looking with slightly puff sleeves.

Seriously, go and have a look. Then let me know if I should actually be sectioned under the Fashion-Sense Act 2007.

PS - tried finding some of the above items on their website, but couldn't see them. here's the website

Mrs Badger, I love it that you use the word thus. Hence is very good too, but with less obvious application on a style thread.

huffpuff · 12/05/2007 16:49

thanks guys! Liking them all esp the ebay one!

i actually have that one and its soooo flattering. lovely shape

SpawnChorus · 12/05/2007 17:00

MrsDarcy - I have large norkage, hence the need for deep v-necks

Jane Norman has some nice ones, in plain colours as well as patterned; round neck with short sleeves & v-neck with long sleeves.

Oh & a male friend who normally refuses to comment on any form of women's fashion said, in response to me saying that lots of the tunics make me look pregnant (I'm nowhere near pregnant in any way shape or form) or just fat, that in Australia all the girls were wearing a chunky belt over the dresses/tunics so maybe that would make it a bit more streamlined... have yet to find a suitable belt so can't comment on whether it works just yet!

Today, with my jeans, am wearing a lovely (£25) Zara cotton short dress with ruffles for sleeves in a blue/yellow/green retro floral pattern, which sounds vile but honestly isn't. Dh and dsd (15 and groovy) have both admired it. I also bought a really beautiful pale green loose top (not a smock) with short sleeves from Nicole Farhi today for £89, which is wildly expensive and WAY more than I would usually spend, but I've only just got back to a size 12 after being a 14 and then a 16 after two babies. it looks really lovely.

Blondilocks · 12/05/2007 20:10

Jigsaw have smock type tops too in linen.

OOOOHH I have a long pink dress/top from Topshop. They've removed the link to it now but there are several alternatives in there.
