What would you wear under this dress if you don't like your arms (and are so-so about your back)?

the front

I have bought this dress as it was a bargain via Ebay and love it. However, I am a bit self conscious about my arms and, to a lesser extent (maybe as I cannot see it!) whether I have a fat back. I am a size 12/14 so not as long and lean as the model, but the dress does look great from the front and Im working on the toning up aspect! However, just in case, I am wanting to wear this when we go to a big gig on the 19th June and I am wondering what others would wear under it (as a cropped bra top or nothing at all is certainly not an option!)

Please inspire me!

Can you really not just brave it?? Anything else will be a bit pinafore. Not sure if nude vest or contrast would work best given the colour, but anything t-shirty might look a bit lumpy. How does it look with a long sleeved (fitted) t-shirt underneath?

Maybe multiple strappy/racer back tops? Or a very snug racer back t shirt - lululemon type?

roundthehorn · 15/04/2018 10:20

Why not wear a cardi over it?

Kirta · 15/04/2018 10:26

Plain white t, if you must!

SouthWestmom · 15/04/2018 10:53

It's a weird dress to buy if you don't want to show your back and arms off Grin

Don't wear a cardi!

Maybe a contrasting tight crop top - will try and fine example

ragmayo · 15/04/2018 10:55

I think a round neck long sleeved top would look nice, lush dress!

Theimpossiblegirl · 15/04/2018 11:00

I'd wear a black bandeau style top and forget worrying about my arms. I always worry too much then go out and see people of all shapes and sizes wearing lovely things and having fun. I'm working hard to get over it and am enjoying myself more as a result. You'll look fab.

^this. Very true

Long sleeved fitted top with a low front (or cut it so it's not seen)

Or Those long sleeved bra things that we talk about on here every now and again over winter

Does googling 'styling dungarees' bring anything up? Similar gape-age issues

Elledorado · 15/04/2018 12:20

maybe this?

But I'd worry about ruining the look of the dress. I'd just wear it as is - but I'm confused, is the nude bra bit part of it? It shows in some pics and not others

mercurymaze · 15/04/2018 12:32

i have \link{http://www.wolfordpartnerboutique-sofia.bg/producteng/212/Fatal-sleeves\these} in red that I am possibly going to ebay, they do go right up as far as you want them to! also marks and spencer do similar arm type things iirc

SinkGirl · 15/04/2018 12:34

Some kind of shrug? I have to wear shrugs or cropped cardigans over everything like this as I have awfully scarred skin on my back and horrid arms

mercurymaze · 15/04/2018 12:38

Moonfacebiggins · 15/04/2018 12:47

I think a jacket would look better than a top underneath. Either denim or biker jacket.

Dottydotts · 15/04/2018 13:20

White/cream tight fitting racer back cotton top Smile

Lifeaback · 15/04/2018 13:25

It's a gorgeous dress and I think you should brave it- your hang ups about your arms will only be noticed by you and not those around you!

The white t-shirt under pinafore thing is quite in at the minute so you could go for that. Ive only seen it with black dresses and I think it's quite hard to pull off- I have quite broad shoulders and it looks silly on me but gorgeous on some people.

ChishandFips33 · 15/04/2018 14:04

fitted off the shoulder top?

Very cropped denim jacket?

I'd wear a white or grey lycra-cotton close fitting tee - long, 3/4 or short sleeved.

It's a gorgeous dress.

Notcontent · 15/04/2018 14:47

I would wear it over a vest top or tshirt. No cardigans or shrugs but a denim jacket would look good.

Scaramoose · 15/04/2018 20:27

Oooh, lots of replies! I hadn't had any by the time I went to bed last night and had forgotten about this thread till now!

Thanks for the suggestions. I have been considering a 3/4 length raglan t-shirt, and some converse, and I was going to pair it, if necessary, with a fitted-ish denim jacket I have. However I might now also look into a wide neck / off shoulder white top like the one linked.

I think you are probably right, I am likely to be aware of something nobody else would notice a mile off but its always good to have a plan B (and I can wear a nice bralette thingy or something under the t-shirt which I can whip off if feeling brave!) The dress is lovely on, it's, to me, the right balance between quirky but cool - and hopefully it won't get trodden on too much at the gig!
