Can I wear this to a semi formal work meeting and then onto a possible first date?

It's too dressy I know...but I spent £££ on it and I love it and feel amazing in it. It needs to be worn!!

Bought for a wedding in June....

I'm 37...if that's relevant..

Also it needs shows. I have no shoes!!

I think it looks fabulous! Go for it.

HeyDolly · 14/04/2018 20:32

I’d wear it with a blazer for the work meeting and then remove it for the date.

OlennasWimple · 14/04/2018 20:32

Wear it! But not with those horrible shoes!

What sort of shoes do you normally like?

Glittermud · 14/04/2018 20:33

Yes you can! It's stunning.

Moonflower12 · 14/04/2018 20:34

That is gorgeous! Like a pp said, with a jacket for the meeting and without for the date.

Grobagsforever · 14/04/2018 21:11

Well I guess it needs heels?? Which I don't normally wear...so kitten heels at a push? Will any flats work?
Won't I be the formal end of semi formal with a jacket?

Man I'm awful at clothes. Awful!

I love that and would (if I were not a fat hobbit) wear it to a meeting and a date no problem.

eurochick · 14/04/2018 21:18

Going against the grain.... I don't like it. I think the fabric looks cheap and something about the cut isn't right. The length could be tricky without heels.

In my line of work I'd think it was a bit casual for a formal meeting. Just right for an after work date though.

Grobagsforever · 14/04/2018 21:25

@eurochick - fair enough! The fabric honestly isn't cheap, very well lined. I'm in a consulting, but the techy end so we are not super formal.

I’d wear it with a cardigan for the daytime meeting. Ted Baker stuff normally looks nice in the flesh so should be fine.

CackleCrackle · 14/04/2018 21:35

Techy end consulting background - think it’s fine with the blazer/jacket over for work and without for date.

Redcrayons · 14/04/2018 21:42

The fabric does look a bit cheap, but that's probably the dodgy ASOS photography. TEd Baker dresses are usually nice in real life.

I'd formal it up with a jacket if it was an external meeting, or a cardigan if internal.

BitOutOfPractice · 14/04/2018 22:49

It's lovely but I can't see it with flats

BitOutOfPractice · 14/04/2018 22:50

Also, where is the date? If it's a restaurant then great. If it's a pub, not so much.

Fightthebear · 14/04/2018 22:53

Hmm . . it’s lovely but looks day- time-formal to me, rather than suitable for a date. Great for a wedding.

Grobagsforever · 14/04/2018 23:49

Yes this is my issue @Fightthebear . Date likely to be pub.

@BitOutOfPractice - can one to learn to walk in heels in a week? ConfusedSmile

bonfireheart · 14/04/2018 23:50

Wear it. It'll look like you made an effort rather than the usual knee length black dresses yawn. Have you met the guy you're going on before or is it a blind/online date?

Grobagsforever · 14/04/2018 23:57

@bonfireheart - online. Which is why I'm assuming it's only 40 percent likely to actually happen. The work meeting is sadly, 100 percent likely 😣....

Frankly I'm thinking of wearing the dress on the school run to get my money's worth Grin

bonfireheart · 15/04/2018 00:03

take a large handbag with you, wear light ballet pumps, get within ten metres of pub swap the ballet pumps for some heels, pop into your bag, sit at table and don't move from their all evening, repeat when leaving ... unless you leave with him!

bonfireheart · 15/04/2018 00:03

*there

Grobagsforever · 15/04/2018 00:11

@bonfireheart - plan!

OP posts:
BitOutOfPractice · 15/04/2018 07:02

Sorry op I think it's far too much for a pub date. I'd think again.

MadMaryBoddington · 15/04/2018 09:08

Well it depends on the pub. There are city pubs where this would not be at all out of place, and rural pubs where you’d look completely overdressed.

I think it does need heels, but lowish ones would be fine.

I’ve seen this dress in the flesh and it’s beautiful - I wish I still had the figure for it!

Grobagsforever · 15/04/2018 09:43

@MadMaryBoddington - London pub..

I have the figure through stress induced weight loss -figured might as well appreciate the upside!!
