What are the official waist measurements for sizes 10 and 12? I've got a feeling I'm a size 11.

Not that I'm awkward or anything

I actually own a pair of 3/4 length trousers in a size 11 (U.S. equivalent) that I bought in Florida last year - I didn't know they existed until then

I think I'm somwhere between a 10 and 12. I find that Gaps US size 6 are a good fit -maybe thats the equivalent of a UK 11?

Washersaurus · 14/05/2007 20:08

Mine are actually a U.S. size 7 - I thought that worked out as a size 11

Clothes in the 70s are much smaller than today. I bought some vintage clothing recently, and it was absolutely minute.

Up to some point in the '80s, you could buy jeans in a Size 11 (I was that size). All of a sudden they disappeared from the shelves, and I've never understood why. Many girls have a 28" waist, which would constitute a Size 11.

UK Size 10 (these days) is 27".
UK Size 12 (these days) is 29".

Thats only me guessing at a US 6 being a UK 11 washersaurus (not doubting you ) -I have no evidence or stats to back it up.

In fact I had no idea what US sizes are out there, I just discovered the Gap 6 was perfect for me.

Washersaurus · 14/05/2007 20:47

I also like the Gap size 6 - fits me much better than a size 10 here strangely

JodieG1 · 14/05/2007 22:26

I don't think my waist is smaller than 27" but I wear a size 8 and they fit, how does that work then? wouldn't surprise me if they say the inch measurements are smaller than they are. I used to be a 6-8 uk before children and I can see there's a difference in the way I look but size 10's are quite loose on me.

sorkycake · 14/05/2007 22:30

Haven't a clue what I am atm cos I'm bf but I'm normally 25 inch waist and I though that was an 8. Is it not?

JodieG1 · 14/05/2007 22:35

Think a 24" is a size 4 so don't think 25" is an 8, prob in between 4 and 6 imo. 25" waist is tiny!

sorkycake · 14/05/2007 22:41

Not at the minute it's not - see my post on bf'ing
