Summer Dress For Size 16...

I really want to buy a dress, I am sooooo sick of jeans but I am not sure of what style to get for my size. I am a 16, 5'2" but I do have shape (so says DH), hourglass (ish!). I love all the dresses out at the momemnt, the kind of prarie (sp?) patterns, 70's pattern etc. You know what I mean I just want an everyday dress, something I won't look dressed up in, nothing smart. Not sure on straps etc, neckline, colours and length. Also shoes to go with it. It is mainly to wear on my birthday, we aren't doing anything fancy, just a picnic by the lakes or something but I want to be a little more dressed up than usual. I can't wear heels either - well, not big ones. So, any advice would be so great, thankyou xx x x

Hourglass figures really suit halterneck empire line dresses. Not baggy around the waist, but with a definite visual line under the boobs.
Avoid just above knee length and go for just below knee, or trailing on the floor long.

I've put a pic in my profile to show you the style I mean.

H&M have some great similar dresses, as do New Look. I find it's best to buy things like this from cheaper shops as you never know how much wear you will get before you hate them, lol.

i recently bought this . i flatter myself it's a suitable shape for a size 16 although i'm a fair bit taller...

btw i don't wear it with a belt!
