prada or chanel sunglasses

so my OH wants to buy me a pair of sunglasses for my birthday, I've never bought anything more expensive than river island sunglasses in the past Confused.
The reason why is because I do wear sunglasses all the time and the cheaper oena break so easily, I want something that will last me with regards to how they look, nothing too trendy that will look stupid in two years time.
I've seen some gorgeous leopard prada ones but I feel as though chanel is timeless.
what do think?
any recommendations please?

I could be wrong but I am sure that most designer sunglasses are all made under licence by the same company called Luxottica. This includes Chanel, Prada and also Rayban. Go for the ones you like ... I have Rayban Jackie O’s and they are great.

There's essentially two things with sunglasses, the fashion element obviously, but more importantly the protection they give to your eyes.
Bausch & Lomb founded the Ray Ban brand originally and they are eye health specialists. The brand was sold though. This is from The Telegraph

Italian glasses giant Luxottica has agreed an eye-watering £40bn merger deal with Essilor, the world’s leading manufacturer of lenses, to create a global behemoth in the eyewear industry.

Luxottica, which owns the Ray-Ban and Oakley brands and was founded by Leonardo Del Vecchio, Italy’s richest man, will join up with the French lens maker in one of Europe’s biggest ever cross-border deals.

i will of course be trying on the glasses but I wanted to know what designers were better than others in terms of how long they'd last and I think I'm going to go for ray bans based on what's been said here. i hope I find some that suit me, that being said I love aviators so it shouldn't be a problem.
The Jackie o's look nice too.
Appreciate all the replies.

I have found Rayban the best, they last really well (most recent pair I have is nearly ten years old) my Gucci ones are uncomfortable & give me a headache if I wear them for to long, not great considering how much they cost.

I have prada sunnies. However I got mine from an opticions and got dark lenses put in them. So I knew they where polarised etc.

Just a thought?
