OK now ladies a quick one - I need an evening bag

Cannot believe I haven't thought of this but my school black tie ball is looming large (it's this w/end) and thanks to lovely MN-ers like JackieNo, Mrs B and GB I have a gorgeous dress from Debenhams, loooooong and dark red (sort of shot). Have also gone a bit doodah and purchased very high red satin sandals of the kind I Will Never Wear Again but they were only £18 from Next.

However I have just realised that I have no bag. I am not a big bag lady anyway, preferring to stick my key in my pocket and my purse in my hand, but even I can see that will not do for this occasion. But I cannot carry my big green MN handbag, lovely tho it is.

I'm gonna have to buy a new one. But what colour? And from where? Shopping ability is limited, ideal would be Sainsbury's or Asda (lol) but I guess I could squeeze in a high street dash. Needs to be cheap tho as budget for outfit has already topped £100

Anyone seen anything nice?

I have a small red beaded one. Might not be what you are after though & may not be the right shade of red. But the offer is there

MrsBadger · 08/05/2007 13:32

what do you need to take?
if I don't have the right bag for a dress I go without lipstick etc and make sure DH has keys and pays for everything

otherwise a ferret in New Look or even BHS may turn something up, and don't discount the supermarkets.

nailpolish · 08/05/2007 13:34

maybe next have a bag to match the shoes?

can yo do a link to the shoes?

nailpolish · 08/05/2007 13:34

MrsB - give dh your lipstick - he can keep it in his inside pocket

MrsBadger · 08/05/2007 13:37

ah but naily that means I have to ask him for it when I want to go to the loo to reapply - doesn't sit well with the confident elegant lady look to be hassling your husband .
I just sit there looking lovely and am kept supplied with champagne...

MrsBadger · 08/05/2007 13:38

oh yes, Next have rather nice £13 red clutch here

chilledmama · 08/05/2007 13:40

You've done this before Mrs B!

luciemule · 08/05/2007 13:41

try doing a search for Bella Mode.com/.co.uk for lovely pretty vintage style handbags. I got a great one for 25 quid.

chilledmama · 08/05/2007 13:44

Need to take money and house key and maybe lippy.

But DH isn't coming so his useful pockets not available, sadly.

Mrs B I love the red shoes on yr link! Those are not the ones I bought tho (didn't see em actually.

can't find the shoes on line actually.

fff that's very sweet of you. But would it cost more to post than bag might cost?

Ah, if you want to try it I will gladly send it Never worry it shouldn't cost more that £2 or so to send it, but it's more of a bright red than a dull red.

I will take a pic later on & you can have a look at it.

Oh oops

Have abandoned own thread. Sorry and thanks for all help. In the end a pal who is very well supplied with stuff (she was accessorising most of the ball goers lol) loaned me a vintage grosgrain black bag which was fine. You don't exactly carry the bag around do you.

The event was last night and was great btw. Danced all night in my killer heels (then ran Race for Life with DD this am!

Thanks for all help and also on ball dress which was a big success.
