What does a twelve year old girl wear to a wedding?

It's such an awkward age for this sort of thing. Too old for typically children's dresses and too young for grown up dresses.

She is excited about getting a nice dress but I have no idea where to start.

Can anyone inspire me?

Depends what shape she is.
Some 12 year olds have definite boobs, others are straight up and down

She is tall and slim and has a waist and hips but not boobs.

John Lewis usually has a good selection of different brands. At that age my gangly, skinny legged nice used to like Ted Baker and Yumi for special occasions.

Depends on her personal style. At a family wedding it doesn’t necessarily matter if the dress isn’t “cool” because probably none of her school mates will be there so if she wants to go with a “party dress” of the sort more usually associated with an eight year old she can feel free - but she wouldn’t get much use out of it so best to go cheap.

Monsoon will do some good options, and there’s probably a load of second hand ones on eBay.

John Lewis website is good for showing you lots of options and letting you filter them - so you could look at that together for ideas of the sort of thing she fancies and then google away. That approach runs the risk of her deciding that ONLY an orange prom dress with silver butterflies will do though.

I had bridesmaids of this age. Monsoon is your friend.

Last year my 12 yo dad wore a navy trouser all in one thing( sorry can’t think of the word!) with cut away shoulders and ballet flats.
The waiters kept handing her bubbly, so she must have looked sophisticated enough

I bought my daughter at the time a dress from superdry. It was strapless but we sewed some on.

I would look also at John Rocha at Debenhams. Quiz also have some dresses that might suit.

My DD wore a velvet, blush pink pinafore dress from Topshop with a plain, grey long sleeved top with frilly cuffs. Grey opaques and grey suede Chelsea boots. But this was in the Autumn. The whole outfit cost about £120 but she has had loads of wear out of it since.

DSD used to love a jumpsuit for weddings, so she could still dance all night long without flashing! We got her one from the Topshop petite range one year it was beautiful.

Monsoon also good, but it depends how mature your DD is? My DSD was old beyond her years and wouldn't have entertained 'pretty' dresses past 12/13. She's 15 next month and looks about 21 now!

I got my 11 year old a grey jumpsuit from New Look teens. She loves it.

Usual shops new look H&M etc too cheap looking

I really don't know what next are thinking not having a decent teen range.

Age 3-16 is bloody ridiculous

Get with the program NEXT and do a trendy teen range 10-16!!!!!!

What about something like this with pumps and a cardy / jacket
