What should I wear with my new leather skirt?

I bought a black leather pencil skirt in the sales today, because I've always liked the idea of a leather skirt - but now I'm not sure what to wear with it Confused It falls a few inches below the knee ( I'm quite short) and I'd like to be able to wear if for casual as well as more dressed up for going out for lunch or in the evening.

Would flat shoes be ok? Or are heels better? Tops tucked in or out? I'm normally very casual so this is a bit different for me - any ideas gratefully received!

I think they look great with a shirt or a t-shirt tucked in.
It a tight knit roll neck jumper also tucked in.

Like this for casual.

Texture - lots of contrasts. So a silk t-shirt or soft knit jumper would look fabulous.

Where did you get it? I've been looking for the 'right' one for ages. I'd wear it with a fairly snug fitting cotton turtle neck, or with a silk cami and jersey biker or loose cardigan.

Casual with a chunky knit or a t shirt tucked in, either heels or flat pumps/trainers.
For going out maybe a nice blouse or sheer knit, also tucked in with heels.

A brown tshirt and ankle boots for casual , a shirt tucked in for smart

Thank you for the suggestions everyone. I think shoes will be the trickiest bit as I'm quite short and I think flats may look a bit dumpy? Would trainers work?? Think I need a trying on session today, I really don't want it to sit in my wardrobe and not get worn because I haven't got round to working out what looks nice with it.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie it's from Oasis, £50 in the sale. It's this one, but it's nicer in real life, not as shiny: www.oasis-stores.com/gb/sale/skirts/leather-pencil-skirt/0630660106.html

Trainers absolutely would work with a leather skirt. With a t-shirt or slouchy jumper tucked in.

Love it and what a bargain. Not in stock in my size though. :(

jelly10 · 11/03/2018 22:20

Oh that's a shame Remus. Will you get a chance to look in store? There were 10s and 12s left where I was, I'd say it comes up small-ish as I'm a 10-12 usually and definitely needed the 12 (or that could just be all the chocolate I've been eating recentlyBlush)

I have a shorter, more a-line one from White Company. I wear mine with fitted jumpers, either crew-neck or polo-neck, opaque tights, and either black Stan Smiths, flat Chelsea boots, or biker boots.

I wear pencil skirts (including my leather one) quite regularly for casual wear. I like it with black opaques and heeled ankle boots from Geox. Plus whatever top you fancy tucked in! So I have an Edwardian high neck top in super delicate cotton, or various chiffony blouses. A big sleeve looks fantastic with the hard, pared-down-Ness of leather. And have been living in the poloneck/pencil skirt combo the last few weekends.
