Love Cos - but who the heck would look good in this?

cos horror

Skinny? Why are you wearing a tent?
Big up top? you look ginormous.
Pear shaped? OK fair enough you've hidden your big hips but under 100 yards of fabric so we all know what's going on under there.

It's like a hideous offcut from Hampstead Bazaar in a specially horrible colour.

I'd love to know if you think you could rock this look Grin

Blondielongie · 09/03/2018 20:16

The colour does it no favours either.

tinkiiev · 09/03/2018 20:20

Looks like a mental hospital gown...

rebelrosie12 · 09/03/2018 20:32

I can kinda picture someone in it...50-60 yo hippy art lecturer with a grey bun and trendy glasses, slim build....but not many people could pull that off!

moonmaker · 09/03/2018 20:37

I know that cos is super popular on mumsnet
I'm generally easy to please but I think the vast majority of their clothing is hideous
I don't know why but I can't get myself to like any of their pieces .

thefirstmrsdewinter · 09/03/2018 21:08

I'm no match for the shapes of Cos garments - rectangular and/or tentlike - as I'm busty and need things to fit under the arms, but the cheap cotton they use is thin and so full of sizing it's crispy and taffeta-like, like quilting cotton. I imagine that once you wash things like this dress it's impossible to make them look nice again.

squoosh · 09/03/2018 21:10

The green one has a particularly 1970s Soviet hospital vibe.

FreeNiki · 09/03/2018 21:11

Oh dear.

I'd look terrible.

CaptainCardamom · 09/03/2018 21:51

Omg no, it’s like a perfect storm of my worst possible outfit. I look shit in high necks and collars, I need fitted things with a waist, and to top it all it has a special peekaboo hem to reveal my fat knees :(

Rofl at 1970s soviet hospital :o

BarbaraOcumbungles · 09/03/2018 21:54

The stripy one at the bottom looks like concentration camp uniform.

Cos does appear to be very fashionable on here but god knows why, their clothes don’t even look good on their models!

HeyRoly · 09/03/2018 21:56

I swear I could never wear a thing from Cos. I'm short and pear shaped, and everything seemed to be made for only the tallest and willowy-est of women.

ohbigdaddio · 09/03/2018 21:58

I love Cos and my first thought when I saw the dress was 'l would wear that!' Not sure what that says about me as everyone else seems to hate it! 🤔

GlitterGlue · 09/03/2018 22:10

You know at primary school when you used to wear an old shirt for painting or craft, which formerly belonged to your grandad? Clearly modelled on that look.

StillMedusa · 09/03/2018 22:22

Glitterglue...I work in a primary school and you are dead right Grin

The poor model looks hacked off!

mrsrhodgilbert · 09/03/2018 23:00

I saw the black version on dummy in the store this week, it looked really good. I'm certainly not tall and willowy and I buy plenty there.

Ellapaella · 09/03/2018 23:09

Moonmaker I agree. Dull, lifeless and shapeless. That shirt dress is hideous.. absolutely vile. It doesn't even look good on the model, which in my opinion is the same for 99% of the stuff I see on the website.

CabbagePatch91 · 09/03/2018 23:14

Mingin'

Ellapaella · 09/03/2018 23:24

It's a cross between a hospital gown and a night shirt.

Ofthread · 10/03/2018 01:16

The black one would be good for a cool vicar with a dog collar.

ohfortuna · 10/03/2018 01:20

looks like some sort of pac a mac

Fabellini · 10/03/2018 01:29

For all the posters saying it doesn’t even look good on the model, I’ve often thought that their clothes always look loads better on real people than they ever do online.
I’m not sure why that should be...whether it’s the minimalist styling, the lack of expression on their faces, the clumpy footwear paired with everything....whatever the reason, I’ve always found lots I want when I’m actually in the shop and trying things on.
If I’m looking online I never see a damn thing I think would be nice!

Mercurial123 · 10/03/2018 05:44

Not this again..... I think you can look in any high street store and say the same.

Hamsterian · 10/03/2018 07:49

I have that dress in black and really like it. I wear it with the sleeves rolled up and not buttoned up all the way to the top.
Trinny has a Youtube film where she goes into Cos with three different women with different body shapes and explains how to choose and style clothes for each body shape.
Some people were saying all Cos clothes are dull, but plain doesn’t have to be dull.

taybert · 10/03/2018 08:00

I don’t like the colour but I think the shape would be fine on a real person. I’ve got a few things from there- the quality seems quite good and I like some of the cuts. I almost always look better in the clothes than the models which doesn’t happen anywhere else!

NoCureForLove · 10/03/2018 08:01

Always pleased to hear from the Cos haters, the Cos bemused. All the more minimalist simple clothes in real fabrics at not extortionate prices for me then...

GrannyGrissle · 10/03/2018 08:13

Yes that is rather monstrous but DSis looks fab in voluminous billowing oddly cut and artfully gathered COS/Allsaints clothes at 5ft10" slim, not much by way of bust. I on the other hand at 5ft3" big boobs, a bit dumpy size 10/12 look abysal in that kind of thing.
