Long skirt for little girl: they don't EXIST!!

My 4yo is desperate for an ankle length skirt and I can't find one anywhere. I am not a person who can sew, wish I was.

Looked at next, h&m, Asda, Zara, eBay, tu, and seemingly nowhere makes long skirts for girls.
Just had a similar problem trying to find her a nightie. She will only wear long nighties to bed, only in pink. I looked everywhere and could only find pj sets or nighties in grey/black/white. In the end I had to buy her a few sizes up so they would be long (and she is tiny. Still wears some 18mths-2yrs clothes).

She loves skirts, dresses, things that are flowy, dressing up and I am really struggling to find things she will actually wear as she is so particular.

As an aside, I can't help but wonder if this problem in finding girly pink clothes is because of the fashionable gender fluid/girls shouldn't just wear pink all the time thing at the mo. It seems fashionable to dress girls in grey/blue/black and that's great, but my girl would wear a pink ball gown constantly if it was up to her and it's becoming increasingly difficult to find girly clothes she will wear.

Anyway, blethering over. Anyone please advise where I can get her a long skirt??

What about a dressing up outfit? - I seem to remember that Cinderella etc all had long skirts.

Ankle length skirts are extremely unpractical for young children. Would a tutu or flarey one work - they have loads in H & M.

We had one from Vertbaudet- just had a quick look and there is the odd longer thing

likeaqueenshop.com/collections/minimum/products/minimum-blue-blossom-long-skirt
I’m not sure which size they start at but might be worth paying for postage

DoubleLottchen · 06/03/2018 22:44

Fat face have a couple. Mid calf rather than ankle (tbh I think ankle would be very impractical for my DD but perhaps yours is different!)

I always find their sizing a bit odd for girl's dresses - usually too short. Maybe not the case for a long dress.

Boden do long nighties for girls

Paie · 06/03/2018 22:48

Try eBay and search for boho style skirts?

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 06/03/2018 22:49

Try Etsy, they have lots of boho type stuff for little ones Smile

Thank you, fab suggestions. I've never heard of these shops so I am glad I asked.

I fully agree they are utterly impractical but she has been asking for a long skirt pretty much every day for a month now. Eeeeeeeh.

Long skirts are easy to make.

Enough fabric to wrap one and a half times around her waist. Hem the bottom, sew the two ends to make a tube, fold over the top and sew, thread elastic (same size as her waist) through the folded top but.

AutoFilled · 06/03/2018 22:50

Nothing to do with gender fluidness. It’s just big flowing dresses are impractical. We were giving a few and they aren’t even that long. But both DDs tripped over them all the time when climbing. They were from monsoon. Have you looked there?

Both DDs love dresses but a short one would do. They can still ‘spin’ and feel princessy in them. Older one has grown out of it now and mostly in leggings. There seem to be more choices in t shirts and jumpers. They are still pink and sparkly and girly.

WeeM · 06/03/2018 22:52

Does it need to be a skirt? I’m sure I saw a maxi dress for girls the other day online...it caught my eye because I thought it was unusual. I’ll see if I can find it, it may have been marks.

ReinettePompadour · 06/03/2018 22:53

Monsoon? My dd used to love long hippy skirts from there.

Also try www.childrensalon.com they usually have long skirts and nighties too.

This one is gorgeous. I think she got it from etsy.

OpalTree · 06/03/2018 22:59

In the 70s the mums at my infant school used to make ankle length party dresses for us. I was going to suggest googling Modest clothing and ordering from the US, but that's probably a bit extreme!

baylisbaylis · 06/03/2018 23:16

Try buying a knee length/short teenage/adult skirt in a small size so the waist is narrow. If it fits ok round her waist than it will be a 'long' skirt for her.

BigFatBloomers · 07/03/2018 01:48

One on eBay here

BigFatBloomers · 07/03/2018 01:50

this one looks long too.

1wokeuplikethis · 07/03/2018 09:55

Thank you ladies, got some beautiful skirts in my shopping basket now. Never thought of monsoon because it's ££££ but not too expensive actually!
