I need some nail inspiration. I have been a nail biter all my life, and have finally managed to grow them a little bit and stop biting the skin.

I am totally clueless about nail stuff. No idea what any of the terminology means. But I love seeing short painted nails, especially dark colours. Could I do anything with these or are they still too short? Photo shows my two best ones, so be kind, this is good for me!

I want them to look in good condition and maybe put something on them to strengthen and improve them and keep me from biting again. I'm happy to go to a beauty place, couldn't do it myself, but wouldn't know what to ask for.

For the record, I don't want them to grow any longer this, and I don't want false ones.

Any ideas or pictures of similar length appreciated!

@Bananafish81 that colour is gorgeous. I've been searching for a really deep burgundy/oxblood for ages... keep buying them and they're just not quite deep/dark enough! Or they're too pink. Or too red. Or just not quite right!

I've googled Touch of Sass and it looks exactly what I've been after. Thank you! Order placed Grin

Well, inspired by you lot I tried to paint mine yesterday with disastrous results. They looked okay (from a safe distance!) but they lasted about 5 minutes before looking awful. I don't think I left enough drying time between coats, maybe a couple of minutes per layer? Then as soon as I moved and picked something up they just got crinkled and all the polish pushed into a big lump. Perhaps I am destined to be a natural short nails person, not sure I have the patience!

Thanks Smile. It's OPI but I don't know the shade I'm afraid as I had it done at a salon. It's a sort of metallic pale pink.

Furry - base coat, wait a few mins, polish, wait a few minutes, polish, wait a few minutes then put some Seche Vite, Nails Inc top coat or any speed drying top coat. I paint my nails regularly. Takes 20 minutes tops - and then I carry on with my day.

Bananafish81 Thank you I'm not going again for a week so that would be great

I never manage colour... apart from once, with that gold nail varnish from M&S (Nails Inc Molten Star, like a fake gel-varnish. It was 1 coat application, no base or top layers, it lasted 5 days on me)

My nails are as short as yours, and most days I justus OPI Nail Envy. It works. It is like a transparent lacquer, but helps nail row by making them less weak.

My nails usually rip like paper, they are thin and hopeless...
