First night out in AGES, have no idea what to wear...

Dh and i are going out together for our first night out together in ages...it's a party for a book launch of one of dh's friends and will be lots of alternative/intellectual type people there, and i just know i'm going to feel like a fat frump. none of my old clothes fit me and i can't really afford to buy anything new.

any suggestions would be really welcome......

got any of those tunic/smock type things that are so popular at the mo? They cover a multiude of sins. Team with nice jeans and pair of heels? Non??
