What reasonably priced eyeshadow palette for DM, blue eyes, fair hair. I have no idea what shades would suit!

DM hardly ever wears makeup and when she does it's tinted moisturizer, lipstick and mascara. Recently though she's expressed an interest in eyeshadow, usually when she sees me or SIL done up.

I'd like to buy her a neutral palette or even a quad or trio that would suit her colouring but I don't really know what shades would work for her. She's early 70s, blue eyes, skin on the pale side but a bit of redness, silver/ash hair.

**I should say that DM really wouldn't see any difference between a £10 palette and a £40 palette, she wouldn't know that UD or ABH are way more expensive and luxe than eg Rimmel or Maybelline. So with that in mind I'm looking for ideas on the more affordable side as it will be part of her gift rather than the main gift IYSWIM.

So, any advice on palettes or shades that should work for her?

I think the Autograph range of makeup by M&S is pretty impressive for the price. M&S also have Pixi palettes which are really natural colours. Also have a look at Boot No7; they have very pretty, neutral shades.

Higher end would always be Urban Decay for me as the quality is just excellent and you can’t go wrong with the Naked palettes. But they are expensive.

Thanks Commuter I hadn't thought of the Autograph range so I'll take a look at those.

This make up site for make up tips.
Lisa Eldridge is fantastic.
Especially the video of her with Sophie Dahl who has similar coloring.
Also Rosie Huntington, who is also blond, but more golden, less pink.

Pinks and lighter colors will be best.
Heavy dark colors aren’t good on fair blond and blue eyed people

I am fair (dark blonde/Light brown), blue eyed and pale with redness in my skin. I wear everything from taupes and light browns, to golds, and darker browns and reddy browns that bring out blue eyes.

I would highly recommend this palette from NYX (in Boots and online) I think it’s called the warm neutrals palette. It’s not expensive, lots of colours, good quality (I have more expensive palettes and often still choose this one) but not too heavy pigment so you can build up colour, mix of matte and nice shimmers. If your Mum wants to experiment this would cover all bases. You can use just one colour or mix some for smokey eyes. It’s just fab really. I’d suggest a couple of good eyeshadow brushes as well, those little foam stick things are crap.

paperdoll That palette looks fab, I got the UD Naked Heat for Christmas and I’m allergic to it. So gutted as the colours are beautiful and really suit my green eyes.

CatsForgotPassword · 02/03/2018 16:56

Paperdoll that looks amazing. I have green eyes so would really like to try that.

PaperdollCartoon · 05/03/2018 08:08

@FuckyDucky how annoying! I’m allergic to loads of stuff and haven’t had problems with this.

It is a fab palette, it’s encouraged me to be more daring with some darker and redder shades than I usually would and I love it!

PaperdollCartoon · 05/03/2018 08:09

It’s £16 on ASOS though currently sold out there

Elledorado · 05/03/2018 08:15

I'm pale, blonde, tried loads of cheaper palettes before I eventually splurged on the UD Naked palette (3). Amazing. I chucked all of my other palettes.

Threeminis · 05/03/2018 08:23

I'm pale, red head though..
this is my favourite palette. https://www.superdrug.com/Makeup-Revolution/Makeup-Revolution-Fortune-Favours-The-Brave-Palette/p/595200 it's only 9.99!

thesunwillout · 05/03/2018 08:27

Was just going to say Revolution at superdrug. Amazing pigments and very good range and value.

I think if she wears only neutrals then I wouldn’t go for more than a a quad or Quint.

The CT palette in sophisticate is lovely but about £36.

I have so many palettes and the one I am really impressed with is one by Collection. I think they come on about 6 different colour ways and have 6 shades in each palette but they are all really wearable and about £4 and excellent for the price - they’re called eyes uncovered

Smash box have recently released some palettes for £24 which are nice.

The other place you can try is KIKO or if you have an Inglot near you I highly recommend their shadows too. I think each individual item is £5 and you can make your own quad
