Snow boots/wellies for the enormous of calf

BlarneyRubble · 28/02/2018 06:12

Is there such a thing? I’ve always had big calves even when slimmer. Sadly I am now fat (size 16) and my big calves are enormous. I can’t get them into normal wellies and snow boots are a distant dream.

Any suggestions on where to get such a thing as a boot that fits (Cinderella style but more practical and without the necessity to marry the handsome prince, I already have one of those )?

Dunlop do 3/4 height wellies which are fab.

I have Merrell Puffin snow boots which also fit.

Can’t get into normal wellies as my calves are big.

Jenijena · 28/02/2018 06:16

I bought some wider fit wellies from amazon one year; I’ve got 45cm calf width I think (I’ve bought knee high boots from duo before)

BananaHarvest · 28/02/2018 06:22

Muck boots are the way to go.

AwayAndStuffYourself · 28/02/2018 06:34

TK Maxx often have Merrel snow boots in..lace up so can fit a wide calf.

newnameforwednesday · 28/02/2018 06:38

I have Joules wellibobs. Just above the ankle and absolutely perfect.

Ecco do good 3/4 length snow boots. I was out for hours in -15 and heavy snow yesterday and my feet were warm. They’re not technical (won’t take a crampon) but they’re fine for everyday wear.,

Obviously if you’re in deep snow you’d want a higher boot or a gaiter type arrangement

You can buy fleece lined wellies as well - lots of those have a wider calf.

Never really seen the point of ankle length wellies - doesn’t the water come in over the top?

BluthsFrozenBananas · 28/02/2018 07:11

I second the Dunlop ones, they fit over my chunky calves fine, they’re also really cheap and long lasting.

MrsJoshDun · 28/02/2018 07:11

All the joules welluebobs I've had have leaked like a sieve

BikeRunSki · 28/02/2018 07:15

Dunlop

hahahaIdontgetit · 28/02/2018 07:22

Definitely not hunters!

wonkylegs · 28/02/2018 07:25

I have tresspass lace up snow boots - they have a bit more give to accommodate my calves

ProseccoPoppy · 28/02/2018 07:33

Le Chameau Vierzonord - the neoprene lined ones. They are warm, the comfiest things ever, last well and fit my fat calves with no problem. I got the men’s ones - which look pretty much identical to the women’s - as they’re a little wider on the foot (I have wide feet too, but they’re wide even when I’m thinner). They seem a little expensive but are really worth it - had mine 6 years now worn them loads and they’re still in great condition.

Don’t buy Hunters - a lot of the range is now very cheaply/poorly made and the calves are - imo - horribly tight.

butterfly990 · 28/02/2018 07:40

Have you tried crocs?

redcollargirl · 28/02/2018 07:47

Muck boots are lovely. Hunter do a wide calf welly.

Corneliasedet · 28/02/2018 07:49

Try Jileon wellies. My legs are much bigger and my Jileon wellies are amazing. I can walk distances in them too as they’re really comfy.

HeyMicky · 28/02/2018 07:51

I have Ilse Jacobson wellies that lace up. A bit expensive but they're a scandi brand so wear well and are comfy and properly waterproof

DarthNigel · 28/02/2018 08:59

I got some neoprene ankle boot type things from decathlon for 12 quid at the weekend. You wouldn't need to get them over your calves and they are actually the comfiest boots I've ever owned. If I could get away with wearing them all the time I would!

Sammilouwho · 28/02/2018 09:04

I love my Joules Wellibobs, has them 2 years and no issues. I also have a 3/4 length pair also from Joules which I’ve had almost 3 years, both pairs have done me good and my calves are huge :)

bettytaghetti · 28/02/2018 09:33

Hunter's welly for wider calves is called Huntress.

iTonya · 28/02/2018 09:45

^^ word for word with proseccoPoppy. I've got men's Le Chameau too and they've lasted really well - I've tramped miles in them daily, year round, for about six years and they're only just showing signs of wear. Stick a pair of sheepskin insoles in there and you don't notice the weather, even on days like today.

IJustLostIt · 28/02/2018 11:59

Joules 3/4 length. They fit below the biggest part of your calf and really pretty Smile

BikeRunSki · 28/02/2018 12:10

Wide fit Hunters are still too narrow for me. 43 cm calf diameter. I skis think my legs are a funny shape. The widest bot of my calf is much higher than anyone else’s, always in the wtlmh place for anything “wide fit”.

BlarneyRubble · 28/02/2018 16:14

Thanks everyone. I'm off to google all the suggestions!

Muck boots style. The neoprene makes them super stretch so it doesn't matter if calf are normal or gigantic. It was the only thing I could get to fit me.
